Xin-Jun Huan, a postgraduate from the department of commercial design, receives New Generation Book Cover Competition `Golden Butterfly Award`
The New Generation Book Cover Competition `Golden Butterfly Publishing Design Award` was brought home to Taiwan for the first time in 2011. Our postgraduate from the department of commercial design, Xin-Jun Huan, won the Golden Butterfly Award along with the honor of our school. He is worthy of the title `top man in book cover design` and on the 11th of February he will be awarded at Taipei International Book Fair.
While studying in university, Xin-Jun Huan was a double-E major. After taking some design-related courses in his senior year he decided that in the future he would study commercial design. Later on as a result of the professional training he received in graduate school his work would eventually come to the forefront and outdo the 600 other works that were submitted to the competition. Though he said humbly that it was beyond his expectations, the results are still a testament to his talent and passion for design.
His submitted work was also his graduation work. “I like reading poetry in my leisure time and expressing creativity through my hobbies”, he said. The work read— `Lin, Hui-Yin`— thoroughly interprets Lin Hui-Yin’s unique style, and his colored image combines blue and white as an expression of flowing water and extraordinary femininity. The flowing waves on the edges wonderfully depict the elegance of female poets, and the cloth-bound books represents women`s beauty. Although it’s a book cover design competition, Huan carefully typed the poems word by word and page by page. He also spent nearly half a year finishing it. Furthermore, at the time of making the book cover he was not even aware that there was a competition. He was just focused on the on the work itself and putting deep thought into how he could bring it to completion. That is why when he learned about the competition he was able to easily hand in the complete work.
Huan also encourages undergraduate students to attend as many competitions as possible. Attending a competition is not only a means of motivation but also an opportunity to test one`s ability. He has used his own experience to tell people to be well-prepared with their works at all times since opportunities are always available to people who are well-prepared.
