I. Mission of education
Our mission is to introduce students to the core concepts in mathematics and then lead them to more advanced inquiries and show them how to apply mathematical knowledge to different areas of scientific studies. We aims to educate outstanding talents in mathematics who can put what they have learned to use in the real world.
II. Characteristics
1. Emphasis on both teaching of fundamentals and advanced research
2. Computerized teaching
3. Teachers and students grow together
4. Balance between theories and applications
5. Current research efforts are directed toward nonlinear analysis, theories of computation, statistics and information systems
6. Our research interests also cover the following: portfolio theory, matrix computation and analysis, optimality theory, fuzzy mathematics, algebraic computation, statistics, database and software design
III. Career paths
1. Advanced studies: Many of our graduates continued to pursue Master’s or Ph.D. degrees (in various programs in mathematics, statistics, computer science, industrial engineering, actuarial and insurance, MBA, information management, etc.)
2. Employment
1) School teachers or jobs in the areas such as insurance, actuarial, software design or information technology.
2) Many of our graduates have been granted different professional certificates:
Career-based programs:
(a) Mathematics program – high school teacher, vocational school teacher, mathematics instructor, mathematical software engineer
(b) Statistics program – data analyst, QA engineer, actuary, national tests
(c) Information science program – information engineer, software engineer, database analyst
(1) middle school teacher’s certificate (2) actuary certificate (3) QA engineer certificate (4) Microsoft network engineer certificate (5) Novell network engineering certificate
Students can choose to pursue advanced studies or join the work force.
