The International Graduate Program of Electrical Engineering, which was set up in 2010, is part of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU). The Department of Electrical Engineering was established in 1972 with an undergraduate program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science. Graduate programs in Electronic Engineering leading to the degrees of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy were established later, in 1991 and 1999 respectively. So far, three sessions of classes have been offered each year. In order to strengthen in-service education, increase the overall educational standard, and provide an excellent learning environment, this department also set up an Executive Master Program in 1999.

At present, the department’s student body has more than 500 students in its undergraduate program, 100 students in its master`s program, 60 students in its executive master`s program, and 30 students in its Ph.D. program. Up to 2009, more than 3000 students had graduated from the department’s undergraduate program. From 2005 to 2008, 200 students graduated from its master`s program, and 5 students graduated from its Ph.D. program. Excellent graduates are working in every sector and carrying out substantial roles in the domestic and world-wide electrical and electronic industry.

The department currently has 17 full-time faculty (5 professors, 5 associate professors, 6 assistant professors, and 1 lecturer) and 10 adjunct professors, whose professions cover the following 4 major fields: (1) Power and energy; (2) Intelligent control system; (3) Communication and (3) Electronic circuits. The Department of Electrical Engineering at CYCU has a highly-praised atmosphere of academic study and outstanding research achievements. At present the department is active in the research and development of :
  • Green Power
  • Electric Machinery
  • Power Electronics
  • Microelectronic Circuits
  • Digital Signal/Image Processing
  • Biomedical Signal Processing
  • Intelligent control
  • Communication theory
  • Multi-media signal processing
  • Internet and wireless network applications

It not only achieves outstanding performance in these fields but also creates leading technology. The department receive funding of about NT$ 20,000,000 every year and has more than 20 laboratories as well as a Power Technology Research Center. The PTRC was established in 2000, and is supported by major research labs located in the Departments of Electrical Engineering. The mission of the center is to develop power technology for diverse applications by using related methodology.

The department aims at training students to be intellectually, ethically, and professionally capable in the field of electrical engineering, and also at devoting its resources to academic research with the aim of serving the nation and society, and promoting the welfare of human beings. In terms of teaching, the Department of Electrical Engineering strives to balance both theory and practice, to develop independent thinking, innovation, and problem solving ability in students, and to encourage team spirit and respect for the profession; and subsequently lay down the foundation for a lifetime of learning and the ability to face the challenges of the 21st Century. In terms of research and service, the Department of Electrical Engineering strives to devote itself to relevant research fields in electronic engineering, pursue new knowledge, and cooperate with the needs of the nation and society to promote economical development and people`s well-being.
