Introduction

The Department of Physics was established in 1955. In 1974 a graduate program was created in order to offer highly qualified students with Master`s degrees in applied physics. Since then, both the faculty and their search fields have been extended, and a Ph.D. Program was initiated in 1992 to strengthen the research activity. Currently, the major research fields in the Department include condensed-matter physics, photonics and theoretical physics.

What physics is about?
Physics is mainly about exploring the mystery of how the universe was created, the rules of how materials are formed and about discovering the relationships among all kinds of natural forces such as sound, light, heat, force, electricity, magnetism, and gravity. In addition to the required core courses such as General Physics, Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Thermal Physics, Optics and Quantum Physics, undergraduate students of the department are required to choose between Physics Division and Optical & Materials Sciences as their concentration so that they will be specialized in promising areas.

Planning for successful career and future employment
  • Advanced studies: 65% of our graduates pursued master or doctoral degrees in fields such as physics, applied physics, astronomy, optics, materials science, electronics and electrical engineering.
  • Employment: In terms of employment, our graduates mostly ended up working in private or public sectors such as semiconductor or optoelectronics industries.
  • Other career paths: Some of our graduates found jobs of their liking in areas such as academic research, computational physics, patent industry, new materials investigation in space technology, biophysics, school teachers, etc.

There are more career opportunities for graduates of the physics department. You are welcome to find them out!
