Led by Vice President and Director of Research and Development Hong Ying-yi, a delegation of faculty members from Chung Yuan Christian University visited the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) from May 12 to 16, 2024. During the visit, the delegation also met with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago and the headquarters of Foxconn. They engaged in extensive discussions on topics such as Taiwan-US educational initiatives and the cultivation of international scientific and technological talent. The visit provided substantial support to CYCU students currently studying at UWM and made significant contributions to academic and cultural exchanges between Taiwan and the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the morning of May 13, the delegation first visited the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago. During this visit, Professor Lai Yu-kun presented an update on the current cooperation between Chung Yuan Christian University’s College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s dual degree program. He also expressed gratitude for the support provided by the Chicago office to CYCU students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In discussing the “Taiwan-US Educational Initiative,” the delegation explored topics related to fostering talent and promoting technological development through collaborations with American universities. Professor Lin Kang-ping emphasized the desire to build a closer partnership with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago within the framework of the “Taiwan-US Educational Initiative,” building on more than a decade of teaching and research collaboration between the two universities. This collaboration aims to make substantial contributions to Taiwan-US cooperation and exchange.<\/p>\n\n\n

On May 14, the delegation arrived at the Foxconn Wisconsin Technology Park. Continuing the international technology talent industry-academia cooperation initiative launched in 2018 between Chung Yuan Christian University and the Foxconn Group, both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as student internships and the cultivation of technological talent. This visit signifies the university’s ongoing commitment to deepening cooperation with industry, promoting the integration of academia and industry, and providing dual degree program students with more internship and employment opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Another significant part of the trip was the visit to Chung Yuan Christian University’s sister school, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM). During the visit, the delegation toured various laboratories within the College of Engineering, including those dedicated to power and energy, wind tunnel research, robotics, and control systems. Following the tours, they held an in-depth research discussion meeting with UWM’s College of Engineering. Professors from both universities formed groups based on areas such as smart manufacturing, energy technology, cybersecurity, and biomedical engineering to share research outcomes and exchange ideas. They also discussed future directions and plans for collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
On May 16, the delegation met with the Vice Chancellor and various deans of UWM to discuss the expansion of collaboration between the two universities. In his speech, the Vice Chancellor of UWM expressed a desire to build upon the existing cooperation with CYCU’s College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and expand collaboration into the humanities and education fields.
