{"id":33472,"date":"2025-04-01T11:19:32","date_gmt":"2025-04-01T03:19:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eng.cycu.edu.tw\/?p=33472"},"modified":"2025-04-16T16:50:37","modified_gmt":"2025-04-16T08:50:37","slug":"cycu-tcsl-department-expands-global-internships-to-cultivate-future-mandarin-educators","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eng.cycu.edu.tw\/?p=33472","title":{"rendered":"CYCU TCSL Department Expands Global Internships to Cultivate Future Mandarin Educators."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Department of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (TCSL) at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) has been actively expanding students\u2019 global outlook through continuous support from the Ministry of Education\u2019s \u201cStudy Abroad Program.\u201d By sending students abroad for teaching internships, the department aims to bridge classroom theory with hands-on practice, cultivating professional skills, cross-cultural communication, and global perspectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To date, CYCU TCSL students have interned in a variety of countries, including Sweden, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Mexico. These opportunities allow students to engage in authentic language instruction, develop teaching materials, participate in classroom assessment, and interact with local communities\u2014all under the guidance of professional educators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1477\" height=\"1108\" src=\"https:\/\/eng.cycu.edu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/\u65e5\u672c\u5be6\u7fd24.jpg\" alt=\"\u65e5\u672c\u5be6\u7fd2\" class=\"wp-image-33474\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eng.cycu.edu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/\u65e5\u672c\u5be6\u7fd24.jpg 1477w, https:\/\/eng.cycu.edu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/\u65e5\u672c\u5be6\u7fd24-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1477px) 100vw, 1477px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In Sweden, the department partners with two institutions founded by alumna Yi-Ting Chen: <em>Tizzy\u2019s Fun Chinese Classroom<\/em> and the <em>Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning in Sweden<\/em>. Both centers actively promote traditional Chinese and Taiwanese culture, while supporting CYCU students in gaining real-world teaching experience. By using visual aids, digital tools, and game-based storytelling, she successfully increased student engagement. She noted that the experience deepened her passion for teaching while enhancing her adaptability and communication skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1620\" height=\"1620\" src=\"https:\/\/eng.cycu.edu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/\u745e\u5178\u5eb7\u5de7\u84c9\u5fc3\u5f97.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33476\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eng.cycu.edu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/\u745e\u5178\u5eb7\u5de7\u84c9\u5fc3\u5f97.jpg 1620w, https:\/\/eng.cycu.edu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/\u745e\u5178\u5eb7\u5de7\u84c9\u5fc3\u5f97-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/eng.cycu.edu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/\u745e\u5178\u5eb7\u5de7\u84c9\u5fc3\u5f97-1536x1536.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1620px) 100vw, 1620px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In South Korea, students are sent annually to partner universities such as Dankook University and Jeju Tourism University for exchange and internship programs. In Japan, a notable partnership has been formed with the <em>Taiwan University Preparatory School<\/em>, where interns teach a wide range of Chinese courses and observe students\u2019 daily lives through group activities. These immersive experiences enrich both teaching ability and cultural understanding. Host institutions also offer transportation subsidies and housing to ease students\u2019 transition and support their focus on teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"1050\" src=\"https:\/\/eng.cycu.edu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/\u97d3\u570b\u5be6\u7fd22.jpg\" alt=\"\u97d3\u570b\u5be6\u7fd2\" class=\"wp-image-33477\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eng.cycu.edu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/\u97d3\u570b\u5be6\u7fd22.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/eng.cycu.edu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/\u97d3\u570b\u5be6\u7fd22-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2021, the department has also collaborated with the Wen Cheng Chinese Education Center in Mexico. Established in 2007, the center has strong ties with local governments and overseas Chinese communities, and is committed to promoting Mandarin education and Taiwanese culture. Some interns have even secured full-time teaching positions after their internships. Yu You-Ning, a former intern, reflected: <em>\u201cDuring these few months of internship, I realized that sometimes a dream feels heavier than a job\u2014but it&#8217;s that very weight that brings real fulfillment and a sense of achievement.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1479\" height=\"1109\" src=\"https:\/\/eng.cycu.edu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/\u58a8\u897f\u54e5\u5be6\u7fd2.jpg\" alt=\"\u58a8\u897f\u54e5\u5be6\u7fd2\" class=\"wp-image-33478\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eng.cycu.edu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/\u58a8\u897f\u54e5\u5be6\u7fd2.jpg 1479w, https:\/\/eng.cycu.edu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/\u58a8\u897f\u54e5\u5be6\u7fd2-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1479px) 100vw, 1479px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Yu-Fen Liu, Chair of the TCSL Department, emphasized the department\u2019s long-term commitment to global internships: \u201cThese programs not only give our students the chance to apply their knowledge and build experience, but also promote the visibility and influence of Taiwanese Mandarin education worldwide.
