From July 17 to 18, 2025, CYCU’s Thin Film Technology Center hosted the “2025 Advanced Thin Film Technology Forum,” bringing together eight leading scholars and students from Japan and Taiwan. The forum focused on precision medicine, biomedical membranes, and sustainable energy. Activities included keynote speeches, student presentations, and cross-border research exchanges, strengthening Taiwan\u2013Japan collaboration and talent development in cutting-edge materials and membrane technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The forum addressed the urgent global demand for antifouling membranes, liquid biopsy platforms, and green processing technologies by deepening international collaboration in membrane separation for advanced healthcare and sustainable applications. Supported by CYCU\u2019s Higher Education Sprout Project, the event highlighted the university\u2019s key role in international research, young scholar development, and knowledge dissemination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The forum promoted academic exchange through three key approaches:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Interdisciplinary keynote talks by experts on cutting-edge topics such as zwitterionic materials, radiation processing, and polymer synthesis.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Oral presentations and peer feedback among Taiwanese and Japanese students to foster cross-cultural research dialogue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Roundtable discussions and networking sessions to strengthen partnerships for future joint research, publications, and scholar exchange programs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The forum featured eight invited talks by leading researchers from Taiwan and Japan. Taiwanese speakers included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Prof. Maggay (CYCU) on multifunctional membranes for wastewater treatment<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Prof. Ying-Nien Chou (National Chung Cheng University) on zwitterionic antifouling surface modification<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Prof. Chia-Chih Chang (NYCU) on functional polymers for bacterial sensing<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Prof. Chih-Hao Peng (National Taiwan University) on troponoid-mediated emulsion polymerization for novel copolymer synthesis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Japanese speakers included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • Prof. Ryohei Kakuchi (Gunma University) on post-polymerization modification strategies<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Prof. Hikaru Yanai (Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences) on fluorinated anion stabilization<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Prof. Fuminori Seko and Prof. Masaaki Omichi (QST, Japan) on radiation-induced polymer modification and advanced membrane technologies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        These talks showcased the latest advancements in functional materials for biomedical and environmental applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Professor Yung Chang, Director of CYCU\u2019s Thin Film Technology Center, stated, \u201cThis event fosters meaningful academic exchange between Taiwan and Japan. By promoting graduate student exchange and inviting young international scholars for internships, it offers the Japanese academic community a direct view into Taiwan\u2019s R&D capabilities and strengthens the international visibility of Taiwan\u2019s membrane research in advanced medical and green energy materials.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Moving forward, CYCU and its Japanese partners will continue joint research on zwitterionic materials and membrane separation technologies.
