CYCU held the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed Shih-Ying Building on December 1, 2025, at the North Campus. During the ceremony, the University presented, on behalf of the Japanese Emperor, the prestigious Konj\u016b H\u014dsh\u014d (Dark Blue Ribbon Medal) to Mr. Chiu Chiu-Lin, Chairman of Shih-Ying Industrial Co., Ltd. and distinguished alumnus of the Department of Chemical Engineering, in recognition of his long-standing contributions to education and public welfare. The opening of the Shih-Ying Building marks a significant milestone in advancing CYCU\u2019s Campus Science and Technology Zone, laying a foundation for future research and industry collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The award, formally granted by Japan\u2019s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on March 26, 2025, honors Mr. Chiu\u2019s decades of philanthropic commitment and generous donations to society. As Mr. Chiu was unable to travel to Japan for the ceremony, CYCU Chairman Dr. Chang Kuang-Cheng presented the commendation on behalf of the Japanese government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chairman Chang praised Mr. Chiu\u2019s sustained support for scholarships, academic development, and campus construction, noting that his entrepreneurial spirit\u2014rooted in the belief of \u201cgiving back to society\u201d\u2014sets an exemplary model for CYCU alumni. He emphasized that \u201cdiligence and integrity,\u201d widely recognized traits of CYCU graduates, are perfectly reflected in the name \u201cShih-Ying,\u201d resonating with the University\u2019s motto \u201cDiligence and Christian Service.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CYCU President Dr. Lee Ying-Ming highlighted the significance of the building\u2019s completion, made possible by Mr. Chiu\u2019s generous NT$36 million donation. The building and its first-floor conference hall are named \u201cShih-Ying\u201d to honor his longstanding dedication. President Lee encouraged faculty and students to embody the spirit of Shih-Ying: steadfast effort, innovative research, and continued advancement in thin-film technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Chiu, who built Shih-Ying Industrial from the ground up, upholds the principle of \u201cwork diligently and do good in the world.\u201d His philanthropic efforts\u2014including scholarships, research facilities, and campus projects\u2014reflect his deep commitment to social responsibility. The Konj\u016b H\u014dsh\u014d is among Japan\u2019s highest honors for public benefaction, symbolizing the strengthening of Taiwan\u2013Japan educational ties and the international recognition of Taiwanese philanthropy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CYCU also expressed gratitude to two additional major donors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Mr. Chen Hsien-Heng (Chemical Engineering, Class of \u201961), who donated US$50,000 for the project, with the third-floor \u201cEnergy-Saving and Carbon-Reduction Process Lab\u201d named \u201cShih-Sen Room\u201d in honor of his father.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The late Mr. Lu Hua (Chemical Engineering, Class of \u201952), who bequeathed part of his estate to CYCU, including NT$30 million for the construction of Shih-Ying Building.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The Shih-Ying Building features three above-ground floors and one basement level, totaling 649.31 square meters. It includes meeting and exhibition spaces on the first floor and demonstration laboratories on the second and third floors, supporting chemical engineering research, interdisciplinary learning, and industry\u2013academia collaboration. The project was jointly completed by Far Eastern Construction Co., Ltd., Kwan-Hui-Yu Architects, and CYCU Integrated Design Consulting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The University emphasized that the opening of Shih-Ying Building advances the development of CYCU\u2019s Campus Technology Park, connecting research capabilities and industry platforms to form a comprehensive corridor for thin-film technology, semiconductor materials, quantum information, intelligent manufacturing, and mold engineering. Celebrating its 70th anniversary, CYCU continues to uphold its mission of holistic education and applied learning, building a strong research hub in thin-film engineering, chemical engineering, and polymer science while contributing to sustainable societal and industrial development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
