CYCU receives a quantum computer donation from the Yushow Education Foundation, launching new academic exploration.

The Yushow Education Foundation generously supported Chung Yuan Christian University’s quantum technology education initiative by donating five nuclear magnetic resonance quantum computers in January this year, worth over a million NT dollars. This donation constitutes Taiwan’s most comprehensive quantum computer equipment, playing a crucial role in nurturing talent for quantum technology. Chung Yuan Christian University expressed that the donated quantum computer equipment will facilitate students’ learning and practical experience with real quantum computers, thereby fostering their abilities in quantum computing and algorithm development to prepare for the impending era of “quantum supremacy.”

The notable feature of the quantum computers donated by the Yushow Education Foundation is their capability to conduct quantum computing at room temperature. They consist of two 3-qubit and three 2-qubit quantum computers, making this batch the most comprehensive in Taiwan at present. These devices will be extensively utilized for teaching purposes, not only benefiting students at Chung Yuan but also extending to high school students and industry professionals in neighboring areas involved in promoting quantum technology education. With collective efforts, the aim is to advance quantum technology to greater maturity and prominence.

Chung Yuan Christian University has established the nation’s first “College of Smart Computing and Quantum Information” and the “Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Program in Smart Computing and Big Data.” This pioneering initiative integrates artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and quantum computing technologies while offering specialized courses to cultivate forward-thinking talent in quantum technology. Additionally, Chung Yuan collaborates with industry partners and local educational institutions to foster quantum technology professionals. With the support of this equipment, students and researchers will have enhanced opportunities for practical experimentation and exploration.
