At the end of 2023, Chung Yuan Christian University delivered an outstanding academic performance by achieving a 100% registration rate for new undergraduate students, once again securing the top spot nationwide. On December 28, the Ministry of Education announced the registration rates for the academic year 112 for new undergraduate students (including international students) in public and private general universities. Chung Yuan Christian University achieved a perfect registration rate of 100%, making it the only private general university in the country to achieve this excellent result. This marks the fourth consecutive year with a 100% registration rate for new students and the sixth consecutive year holding the top position among comprehensive universities nationwide, both public and private. President Lee Ying-ming of Chung Yuan Christian University pointed out that the ongoing challenge of declining birth rates is a significant concern, and future development is crucial. He encourages all faculty and staff to work together to overcome the challenges posed by declining birth rates, making Chung Yuan Christian University a trustworthy and high-quality institution that students and parents can rely on, characterized by faith, hope, and love.
2023 was a fruitful year for Chung Yuan Christian University, receiving acclaim in various aspects, including achieving a 100% enrollment success rate for the academic year 112, with no unfilled quota. For the fourth time, the university was honored with the Ministry of Education’s “Friendly Campus Award” as an outstanding institution, holding the record for the highest number of awards nationwide. The university’s “Higher Education Deep Cultivation Plan” (Years 112-116) received a subsidy of NT$1.55 billion from the Ministry of Education, the highest among private comprehensive universities in the country.
According to the 2024 “World University Rankings” by the Times Higher Education (THE), Chung Yuan ranked 15th nationally and secured the 8th position in the field of “Engineering and Technology,” holding the top spot among private universities. In the 2024 “Asia University Rankings” released by the QS World University Rankings, Chung Yuan Christian University maintained a stable position in the range of 301-350. Additionally, in the “Citations per Paper” indicator, the university ranked second nationwide and first among private institutions. Chung Yuan Christian University’s performance in various fields has surpassed that of many national universities.
Chung Yuan Christian University boasts a robust faculty, with an impressive achievement of having 20 professors ranked among the ‘Top 2% Scientists in the World – Lifetime Scientific Impact’ list (1960-2022). One notable figure is Professor Zhang Yong, a distinguished professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, who was honored with the 2023 ‘Outstanding Contribution to Science and Technology Award’ by the Executive Yuan. He stands as the sole awardee in the ‘Engineering and Technology’ category. Professor Zhang Yong pioneered the development of the world’s most efficient anticoagulant-depleting leukocyte filter. Collaborating with students, he co-founded Taiwan’s first high-level blood medical device company, contributing to the well-being of patients.
Notably, Professor Zhang Yong is an alum of Chung Yuan Christian University’s Chemical Engineering program, exemplifying the university’s excellent academic and research environment that nurtures talent beneficial to both the nation and society.
In addition, at the 75th ‘Germany Nuremberg International Exhibition of Inventions’ (iENA), faculty and students from the Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Chemical Engineering departments of Chung Yuan Christian University achieved remarkable success with 2 gold and 2 silver awards. Professor Lin Kang-Ping, a lifetime appointed professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, was selected as the Vice President of the ‘International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering’ (IFMBE) and is set to assume the role of President in the next term (2025-2028). He is the first professor from Taiwan to hold this position. Professor Lin Kang-Ping is also an alumnus of Chung Yuan Christian University, having graduated from the Biomedical Engineering program and earned a master’s degree in Applied Physics.
Chung Yuan Christian University President Lee Ying-ming stated that, in addition to achieving a consecutive 100% registration rate for undergraduate freshmen, the overall new student registration rate for the academic year 112, covering all programs, reached 97.58%, securing the top position among private universities nationwide. The “Stability of Enrollment Rate” for undergraduate programs stood at 95.12%, placing the university at the forefront nationally among both public and private institutions. President Lee attributed these outstanding results to the foundation of “holistic education,” acknowledging the blessings and guidance from God and expressing gratitude for the dedicated efforts of all faculty and staff.
President Lee Ying-ming emphasizes that Chung Yuan Christian University adheres to the educational philosophy of “Love is the guiding force of education.” Starting from a foundation of love, the university deeply cultivates holistic education and aims to use knowledge to benefit society.
