In order to cultivate international design talents with a global perspective, Chung Yuan Christian University has partnered with Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom to establish the ‘Dual Bachelor’s Degree Program in Architecture and Urban Design.’ The program began accepting students from the 112th academic year, and the inaugural admission rate reached 100%! The first cohort consists of 20 students, including both domestic and international students. On September 14, the opening ceremony was held, with Chung Yuan students and teachers from Oxford Brookes University meeting online, marking the official launch of the OBU program.
Through video conferencing, these students from Taiwan and abroad eagerly connected with the teachers from the United Kingdom, despite a seven-hour time difference, sharing their excitement about studying in the UK two years from now. During their first two years in Taiwan, the British teachers will continue to create an immersive learning environment by maintaining online connections through social communities, synchronizing the students’ experiences with life on the UK campus.
Chung Yuan Christian University’s “Dual Bachelor’s Degree Program in Architecture and Urban Design with Oxford Brookes University,” abbreviated as the OBU program, combines the educational resources and specialized courses of both institutions to jointly cultivate talents in architecture and urban design. During their first and second years, OBU program students study at Chung Yuan Christian University, where the curriculum integrates academic resources from four departments within the College of Design: the Department of Architecture, the Department of Landscape Architecture, the Department of Interior Design, and the Department of Business Design. All instruction is conducted in English.
In addition to professional design training, this program also incorporates foreign language instruction to strengthen students’ English language proficiency. After studying at Chung Yuan Christian University during their first and second years, students transition to Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom for their junior and senior years, where they engage in professional coursework and practical training. Upon graduation, they can enter the industry or apply for further studies at Oxford Brookes University. Upon completing the program, students will be awarded both a bachelor’s degree diploma from Chung Yuan Christian University and Oxford Brookes University. They will also qualify for Part 1 of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) examination, which is the first stage of becoming a certified architect.
