On July 25th, Chung Yuan Christian University conferred an honorary doctoral degree in Engineering upon Xie Yansheng, the Chairman of Pu Yu Investment Co., Ltd., in recognition of his contributions to the nation, society, and the international community. Xie Yansheng is an alumnus of the Department of Industrial Engineering at Chung Yuan Christian University and serves as a director for multiple listed companies and a past director of Rotary International. Over the years, he has actively participated in various international charity initiatives, promoting significant service projects and embodying the concept of “holistic education.” He stands as a beacon of national pride and is a true symbol of honor for Chung Yuan.
Xie Yansheng joined the Rotary Club of Taipei Metropolitan in 1989 and has been actively involved in sponsoring charitable activities for the underprivileged. In 2013, he was honored with the “Rotary International Service Above Self Award” in recognition of his outstanding contributions. His philanthropic endeavors have reached various corners of the world, including digging drinking water wells in impoverished areas of the Philippines, donating bicycles to schoolchildren in northern Thailand, providing computers to Mongolia, contributing medical wards in Sri Lanka, supporting cleft lip programs in Indonesia, administering polio vaccinations in India, donating rehabilitation buses domestically, and providing relief and reconstruction after Typhoon Morakot in Taiwan, aiding in the aftermath of the South Asian tsunami, and supporting relief and reconstruction efforts after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Xie Yansheng has also sponsored Rotary Peace Center scholarships, and in recent years, he has promptly extended humanitarian care and assistance during the Ukrainian-Russian conflict and the major earthquake in Turkey. He embraces the spirit of “Service Above Self” and “Doing Good for the World,” tirelessly benefitting countless people in need.
Receiving the honorary doctoral degree in Engineering from his alma mater is a deeply cherished honor for Xie Yansheng. He fondly recalls his entrance into the Department of Industrial Engineering at Chung Yuan Christian University in 1968, at a time when industrial engineering was still a relatively new field of study in Taiwan. He expresses gratitude towards his patient mentors and the support and guidance he received from many senior alumni from Chung Yuan in his professional journey, enabling him to make contributions in a field he is passionate about.Xie Yansheng humbly attributes his achievements to living by the university’s motto of “Sincerity, Conviction, and Perseverance.” He believes that his success is a direct result of embodying the spirit of Chung Yuan’s motto in his actions and endeavors.
