CYCU’s Sustainable Development: 2022 National Sustainable Development Awards

National Council for Sustainable Development (NCSD) has recently announced the 2022 National Sustainable Development Awards. Among the awards, the Education Award was given to Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) because of the school’s exceptional performance. CYCU has checked 18 Sustainable Campus Index since 2022, and it will continue to devise sustainable development strategies. In addition, CYCU set a target year of 2049 for reaching net-zero emissions. Through its educational belief in “holistic education,” CYCU has introduced sustainability education to the campus and put practices in place.

In the last two years, the COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically affected society and the economy. On top of that, the extreme climate also has an impact on our lives. These remind people that the environment sustainability should be our first priority. Universities should take the decline of birth rate into consideration and plan for sustainable operations. According to CYCU President, Dr. In-Ming Lee, he recognized the importance of sustainable operations for the university when he took the helm in 2021. As a result, he has promoted the UN SDGs ever since and made them the point of focus.
