Innovative Thinking in Action: CYCU Business School Students Achieve Success in Big Data Analytics Competition.

Under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, the “2nd Business Big Data Innovation Competition,” jointly organized by the College of Business at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) and the Global Taiwanese Business Research Center, held its finals and award ceremony on May 17th. The competition aims to cultivate students’ ability to apply business thinking, utilizing the KEYPO Big Data Analytics Engine for precise sentiment search and analysis, chart functions, and uncovering insightful and creative reports that meet industry needs.

The competition attracted participation from seven different departments at CYCU, including Business Administration, Information Management, Accounting, Finance, Financial and Economic Law, and the Bachelor’s Program in Intelligent Computing and Big Data. A total of 23 teams consisting of 73 students registered. After two months of preliminary, semi-final, and final evaluations, the students demonstrated outstanding data analysis skills and innovative thinking. Ultimately, a professional jury selected four winning teams from the Information Management, Finance, and Accounting departments. Additionally, four teams received honorable mentions.

The Information Management Department at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) focuses on practical applications and forward-thinking, equipping students with skills in data analysis and business insights, enabling them to solve real-world problems. Under the guidance of Professor Chueh Hao-En, the team, with their project titled “Costco Co-Branding War: Did Cathay United Bank Lose?” won the championship by leveraging in-depth data analysis and incisive business insights. They were awarded a cash prize of NT$10,000 for their outstanding performance.

Under the guidance of Professor Li Yan-Xian, the Finance Department at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) emphasizes a balance between theory and practice, aiming to cultivate students’ deep understanding of financial products and markets. Two projects, “Key Insights into Dividend Investing” and “The Secrets Behind ETFs,” won second and third place respectively, showcasing the students’ comprehension of financial data and their innovative applications.

Additionally, under the guidance of Professor Cao Mei-Juan, the Accounting Department’s project titled “Carbon Fees! Carbon Waste?” secured third place. The Accounting Department at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) emphasizes social responsibility and sustainable management, equipping students with a comprehensive perspective on environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) to meet corporate needs. The team demonstrated an in-depth analysis of environmental issues, fully showcasing their understanding and commitment to these crucial topics during the competition.

In recent years, the College of Business at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) has actively undertaken the Ministry of Education’s “Key Talent Elevation Program for Smart Innovation,” aimed at cultivating digital talents with interdisciplinary thinking and smart applications to meet the needs of various industry transformations and upgrades. Dean Lee Cheng-Wen stated that the training provided through this big data analytics competition is expected to effectively develop students’ abilities to utilize smart technology, thus achieving the goals of talent cultivation set by both the Ministry of Education and the College of Business.
