On August 18th, 39 Chinese language teachers from overseas Chinese schools in Myanmar concluded their 12-day training and study tour in Taiwan. This training program, organized by the Overseas Community Affairs Council in collaboration with Chung Yuan Christian University, featured outstanding Taiwanese educators who provided instruction focused primarily on practical teaching methods, supplemented by theoretical knowledge. Participants expressed that they learned many innovative teaching models, course design strategies, and student interaction techniques during the training, leaving them with a wealth of valuable insights.
Chung Yuan Christian University’s Director of the Chinese Language Teaching Center, Dr. Ou Defen, stated that the curriculum for this training program was designed to meet the specific needs of overseas Chinese education in Myanmar, balancing both theoretical and practical aspects. In addition to professional courses on language theory, the program included practical, hands-on teaching demonstration sessions where participants could engage in group exercises and provide feedback. The goal was to significantly enhance both the teaching knowledge and skills of the participants by the end of the program.
Huang Zhengjie, Director of the Overseas Chinese Education Division of the Overseas Community Affairs Council, remarked that this training not only provided an opportunity for teachers to gain new knowledge and experience in Taiwan but also aimed to establish a network between Myanmar’s teachers and Taiwanese educators. The comprehensive curriculum and study tours were designed to cultivate more outstanding overseas Chinese language teachers. The successful implementation of this training program not only enhanced the professional capabilities of overseas Chinese language teachers but also marked a tangible achievement in strengthening cooperation between Taiwan and overseas Chinese education. He expressed hope for more opportunities in the future for additional Chinese language teachers to participate, jointly promoting the development of Chinese language education and spreading Chinese cultural knowledge globally, allowing it to take root and thrive.
The event also included cultural teaching courses, teaching observations, and educational tours. Participants visited schools collaborating with the Overseas Community Affairs Council’s technical and vocational training program for overseas Chinese students, such as Century Green Energy Industrial & Commercial Vocational High School in Taoyuan City and Asia Eastern University of Science and Technology. These visits provided insights into Taiwanese schools and teaching methods, and participants expressed that they gained a great deal from the experience. Additionally, the training program included tours of local sites representing Taiwanese culture, including the National Palace Museum, Dadaocheng, Yehliu, and Jiufen, allowing participants to experience the development and preservation of local culture firsthand.
