CYCU Hosts USR Forum and Achievement Exhibition.

Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) hosted the 2024 University Social Responsibility (USR) Forum on December 11, themed “Unlock Your Sustainability Potential, Future Skills Powered by CYCU.” The event brought together numerous young students and industry experts to explore the intersection of sustainable development and future skills.

The forum featured several distinguished speakers, including Jason Chung, Chief Human Resources Officer of 104 Job Bank; Jacky Hou, Associate Director of KPMG Sustainability Services; and Leo Lin, Founder of Lead for Taiwan. These experts provided professional insights to deepen participants’ understanding of sustainability issues.

Grace Kuan, General Manager of UDN Digital, attended the event and highlighted CYCU’s integration of holistic education with regional revitalization, showcasing the significant value and impact of USR initiatives in sustainable development. By fostering innovative approaches to student education that combine business thinking with sustainable action, CYCU aims to cultivate forward-thinking “green-collar” talents. Kuan encouraged students to embrace challenges with the mindset of “top-tier players,” transforming the knowledge gained on campus into momentum and a solid foundation for their future careers.

One of the highlights of the event was the simultaneous University Social Responsibility (USR) Achievement Exhibition, held from December 10 to 12 in front of the first floor of the Holistic Village Art Center. The exhibition featured interactive elements, allowing participants to write sustainability pledges and co-create a greener campus. A special section titled “Hand in Hand, Starting from CYCU” showcased the results of CYCU’s nine major USR projects.

These initiatives include:

  • Collaborating for Community Well-Being: Partnering with “The Carpenter’s Home” to promote the reuse of secondhand items, expanding the impact from the campus to the community.
  • Bold Entrepreneurship Under Rural Fruit Trees: Supporting the “Shuanglian Pear Social Enterprise” to help farmers market their products and attract young farmers back to revitalize the local economy.
  • Creative Formulas for Taoyuan’s Irrigation Culture: Preserving Taoyuan’s irrigation heritage by combining local creativity with global knowledge dissemination.
  • Preservation through the Urban Museum Project: Protecting the historical legacy of Taoyuan Air Base’s “Black Cat Squadron” and revitalizing military village culture.
  • Best International USR Ambassador: Collaborating with Malaysia’s UCSI University to extend cross-border professional influence.

These projects not only reflect CYCU’s commitment to sustainability but also demonstrate its role as a bridge connecting local culture, community development, and global impact.

In addition, a dedicated exhibition area was set up on the first floor of the Joint Administrative Service Center. Through multimedia presentations, the space helped visitors understand how to unlock future skills and excel in the field of sustainability.

Three featured videos focused on the Fruit Tree Adoption Program, Service-Learning Initiatives, and Interdisciplinary Professional Collaboration, highlighting the essential soft skills that AI cannot replace. These stories showcased the integration of practical experience with sustainability, inspiring participants to embrace innovative approaches in addressing future challenges.

Senior student Tsai Yun-Chin from the Department of Information Management shared her thoughts after visiting the exhibition, saying that the resources provided by the university have helped her better understand how to apply her learned skills to sustainability issues. She expressed that even as a newcomer to sustainability, it is possible to make an impact through practical actions.

Meanwhile, sophomore Lin Wei-Ting from the Department of Electronics remarked that, although he is still a beginner in the field of sustainability, he is confident in his ability to become a top-tier player in the future through steady and gradual efforts.
