CYCU Student Team Designs Emotion-Focused Learning Tool, Wins Recognition at 100K Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.

Organized by the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Center at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) and guided by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, the 2024 “100K Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition” concluded with its final round and awards ceremony on May 20. Spanning more than two months, the event attracted nearly 90 student teams from universities across Taiwan, showcasing the entrepreneurial energy and interdisciplinary capabilities of today’s youth.

This year’s competition featured three main categories: Smart Technology, Industrial Innovation, and Social Impact. Students were encouraged to develop entrepreneurial solutions that addressed areas such as technological advancement, social care, and environmental sustainability, while aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to strengthen the link between innovation and social responsibility.

Three student teams from CYCU received Honorable Mention awards, reflecting the university’s long-standing commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship education. Among them, the Commercial Design team B.RIGHT stood out with their project Story EMonster, an emotional learning toolkit for children. The product combines building blocks with storytelling elements to help children understand and express their emotions through play. By assembling their own “emotion monsters,” children explore their feelings and learn to manage them through interactive story scenarios.

The project was also awarded a NT$100,000 grant through the Ministry of Education’s Startup Practice Program and was selected for the first stage of the U-start program, demonstrating strong potential for commercialization.

According to CYCU’s Innovation and Industry-Academia Collaboration Office, the 100K Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition integrates entrepreneurship courses, mentorship, industry partnerships, and practical pitch sessions. It has become a key platform for young people to test their entrepreneurial skills while demonstrating social responsibility. From idea development and prototype design to final presentations, the competition equips students with the ability to turn creative concepts into viable startup solutions.

Looking ahead, CYCU will continue to enhance the competition framework and expand its entrepreneurial resources. The goal is to nurture a new generation of startup talent with strong execution and social impact, fulfilling the university’s mission of “knowledge in service of society” and empowering youth to pursue paths of innovation and entrepreneurship.
