In alignment with national sustainability initiatives, the Department of Business Administration at Chung Yuan Christian University has introduced the “Sustainable Corporate Strategy Implementation” course, integrating the iPAS Net Zero Carbon Planner (Level 1) certification. The program achieved an impressive 52.17% passing rate, significantly surpassing the national average. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical training, the course empowers students with expertise in sustainability, carbon management, and global competencies. Supported by Taiwan’s Higher Education Sprout Project, the university actively fosters professional certification opportunities, demonstrating its strong commitment to cultivating next-generation business leaders equipped for global sustainability challenges.
The Sustainable Corporate Strategy Implementation course at Chung Yuan Christian University’s Department of Business Administration is jointly taught by Professors Wen-Chiung Chou and Yu-Chin Lai. The course covers essential topics such as carbon inventory and footprint calculation, carbon trading mechanisms, carbon neutrality practices, international climate agreements, and border carbon adjustment policies. Through a combination of lectures, case studies, and simulation exercises, students transform abstract sustainability concepts into actionable management strategies while developing cross-disciplinary integration and decision-making skills.
Department Chair Professor Ming-Yen Lee emphasizes that this course aligns with national competency standards and bridges academic learning with real-world applications. The department remains committed to expanding ESG- and SDG-oriented curricula, encouraging students to pursue professional certifications, and nurturing a new generation of business leaders equipped with sustainability literacy, digital skills, and global perspectives. These talents are well-prepared to help businesses face transformational challenges and contribute to Taiwan’s net-zero transition.
The course also focuses on enhancing students’ adaptability and ability to stay current in a rapidly changing world. As Professor Wen-Chiung Chou explains, “This course is not just for certification. It provides students with a comprehensive understanding of sustainability transitions—from policies and regulations to management tools and corporate strategies—laying a solid foundation for their future careers.”
Remarkably, all students who passed the certification are only 20 years old, the minimum eligibility age, yet they successfully earned a national-level credential. Professor Yu-Chun Wang, Director of the Office of Sustainability, highlights that this achievement reflects both the students’ potential and the university’s strong performance in sustainability education. She adds, “Supported by Taiwan’s Higher Education Sprout Project, the university continues to provide financial assistance for students to pursue sustainability certifications, empowering them with professional expertise and career competitiveness.”
Students also shared their learning experiences. One student noted, “This course gave me a thorough understanding of global sustainability trends and carbon management, while helping me reflect on the role and responsibility of businesses in achieving net zero. It will be a great asset for my future career.”
In recent years, CYCU’s Department of Business Administration has actively promoted carbon management, sustainability development, and green innovation courses, while building close partnerships with domestic and international industries. Through systematic curriculum design, the program not only equips students with solid sustainability expertise but also fulfills the university’s social responsibility, contributing actively to Taiwan’s sustainability transition.
