CYCU Strengthens Taiwan–Japan Academic Exchange through Laboratory Internship Program with Tokyo Denki University.

CYCU hosted a seven-day “2026 Laboratory Internship Exchange Program” from March 22 to 28, welcoming 14 faculty members and students from Tokyo Denki University, Japan. Building on a prior student exchange in January, the program combined reciprocal visits with hands-on laboratory training to further enhance bilateral academic collaboration and showcase CYCU’s commitment to international engineering education and global talent development.

Centered on “immersive laboratory learning,” the program placed Tokyo Denki University students into the research groups of nine CYCU faculty members. Participants engaged in cutting-edge fields including active noise control, biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence, robotics control, antenna design, computer networks, and electric vehicle systems. Through extended time in the laboratories, students operated professional equipment, joined research discussions, and participated in problem-solving processes, gaining hands-on experience while demonstrating interdisciplinary integration and international collaboration.

To help visiting faculty and students quickly adapt to the campus and cultural environment, the program began with guided tours of the University History Room and the Chang Ching-Yu Memorial Library, introducing campus architecture and archival resources, along with thematic exhibitions highlighting CYCU’s humanistic and Christian heritage. A welcome luncheon featuring Taiwanese cuisine further encouraged interaction and exchange, laying a strong foundation for subsequent academic collaboration.

At the opening ceremony, Department Chair Yu-Kun Lai of CYCU noted that engineering education must go beyond classroom instruction by integrating hands-on experience and cross-cultural exchange to cultivate global mobility and interdisciplinary capabilities. Professor Kantaro Yoshimoto of Tokyo Denki University added that such immersive international programs effectively enhance student motivation and strengthen their competitiveness in the global technology landscape.

During the final presentations, students shared their seven-day internship experiences and learning outcomes. For many Japanese participants, this was their first overseas academic exchange, leading to notable growth in both professional skills and cross-cultural friendships with CYCU students. Beyond the classroom, they explored Taiwan’s night market culture and local life, further deepening their cultural understanding. Many participants noted improvements in English communication and global perspective, as well as a clearer direction for future research or career development.

Professor Norihiro Kamamichi of Tokyo Denki University noted that engaging in real international research environments helps students develop cross-cultural communication and problem-solving skills—key competencies for future engineers. Chair Yu-Kun Lai added that the program not only enhanced student learning but also opened new opportunities for faculty collaboration in AI, robotics, and intelligent systems.

Organized by Professors Chong-Hao Huang and Hsin-Hung Chang, the program was successfully carried out with the support of more than 20 faculty members and students. CYCU stated that it will continue to expand international internship, exchange, and research collaboration initiatives to build deeper global learning platforms and cultivate well-rounded talents, advancing its vision of “bringing CYCU to the world and the world to CYCU.”
