CYCU Quantum Information Center Advances High School Quantum Education Through Partnership with NTU and Hon Hai Education Foundation.

The Quantum Information Center at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU), in collaboration with the Hon Hai Education Foundation and the National Taiwan University–IBM Quantum Hub, co-organized the 2026 High School Quantum Computing Summer Camp, held from July 13 to 17 at National Taiwan University’s Department of Physics. The five-day intensive program brought together high school students for immersive learning in quantum computing, with Associate Professors Huang Tsung-Wei, Chen Chih-Yu, and Chang Yen-Jui from CYCU leading more than half of the camp’s core curriculum. Their participation highlights CYCU’s leadership and growing impact in cultivating next-generation quantum talent.

The curriculum provided a comprehensive introduction to quantum science, covering classical mechanics, modern physics, the mathematical foundations of quantum mechanics, quantum computer hardware and software architectures, quantum algorithms, quantum entanglement, and quantum communication. Participants also gained hands-on experience using IBM Quantum systems, progressing from fundamental concepts to quantum programming and practical applications. Through a carefully structured learning sequence, CYCU faculty guided students in building a solid foundation in quantum computing while inspiring the next generation of innovators in quantum technology.

Directed by Distinguished Professor Ching-Ray Chang of CYCU’s Department of Physics, the Quantum Information Center plays a leading role in advancing quantum education in Taiwan. Professor Chang, formerly a Distinguished Professor at National Taiwan University and Director of the NTU–IBM Quantum Hub, has been instrumental in promoting quantum education nationwide. “Quantum technology has the potential to become the next transformative technology after semiconductors,” he said. “By introducing high school students to quantum computing at an early stage, we hope to cultivate the next generation of quantum talent for Taiwan.”

Offered free of charge, the summer camp received an overwhelming response. Due to strong demand, enrollment was expanded from the original 40 in-person and 60 online participants to 60 students in each format. Participants also received a complimentary copy of Introduction to Quantum Technology. Beginning with fundamental concepts such as qubits, quantum superposition, and quantum entanglement, the program progressed to hands-on quantum programming using IBM Quantum systems. The camp concluded with a keynote lecture by Professor Chang, “Quantum + AI: The Rise of a New Civilization,” exploring the transformative potential of integrating quantum technologies with artificial intelligence.

CYCU has invested in quantum education for many years, acquiring five room-temperature two-qubit and two room-temperature three-qubit educational quantum computers, making it the only university in Taiwan besides National Taiwan University to possess this advanced teaching infrastructure. Through its long-standing partnership with the NTU–IBM Quantum Hub and the Hon Hai Education Foundation, CYCU has co-organized the High School Quantum Computing Summer Camp for several consecutive years, helping extend quantum education to younger learners.

Looking ahead, CYCU will continue strengthening quantum talent development through curriculum innovation, faculty expertise, and cross-institutional collaboration. By expanding educational opportunities and fostering interdisciplinary partnerships, the University is committed to building a strong talent pipeline for Taiwan’s emerging quantum era.
