Professor Ching-Ray Chang, Distinguished Professor in the Department of Physics and Director of the Quantum Information Center at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU), has been honored with the 2026 AUMS Award by the Asian Union of Magnetics Societies (AUMS) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to research in magnetics, quantum computing, spintronics, and nanotechnology. Presented biennially, the AUMS Award is one of the most prestigious honors in Asia’s magnetics community. Professor Chang’s achievement not only highlights Taiwan’s internationally recognized research excellence but also further enhances CYCU’s global visibility in quantum science and magnetic research.
The award ceremony took place during the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Taiwan Association for Magnetic Technology and the 38th Symposium on Magnetics and Magnetic Technologies, held at National Quemoy University from July 21 to 23. The award and certificate were presented by Professor Teruo Ono of Kyoto University, Japan, who served as Chair of this year’s conference. During the event, it was also announced that Professor Chang has been invited to deliver a Keynote Speech at the International Conference of the Asian Union of Magnetics Societies (IcAUMS), to be held in China in 2028, where he will share his latest research achievements and forward-looking perspectives with the international scientific community.
Founded in 2009, the Asian Union of Magnetics Societies (AUMS) brings together leading magnetics societies from Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Russia. The AUMS Award recognizes outstanding Asian scholars who have made world-class contributions to magnetics, magnetic materials, and related applications. Recipients are selected for their exceptional research achievements and broad international impact.
The award citation particularly recognized Professor Ching-Ray Chang’s pioneering contributions to quantum computing, spintronics, nanotechnology, and quantum education, as well as his successful integration of quantum information science, advanced materials, and quantum-inspired computing. Through his visionary leadership, Professor Chang has played a pivotal role in advancing international collaboration and nurturing scientific talent across Asia, significantly strengthening the region’s strategic position in the global quantum technology landscape.
Professor Ching-Ray Chang previously served as a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Physics at National Taiwan University and as Director of the NTU–IBM Quantum Computer Center. He has been a leading advocate for quantum education and public engagement with quantum technology in Taiwan. In 2025, he was named to the global Quantum 100 list in recognition of his sustained contributions to quantum research, education, and industry collaboration. His latest AUMS Award further acknowledges his distinguished research in spintronics and micromagnetics, underscoring his broad academic influence across magnetics and quantum technology.
In recent years, Professor Chang has led the Quantum Information Center at Chung Yuan Christian University, guiding his team in transforming complex quantum technologies into accessible learning materials for students at different educational levels. The award represents international recognition of his long-standing contributions to both research and education, while also highlighting CYCU’s achievements in quantum information science, frontier research, and interdisciplinary talent development.
