CYCU Wins Three Awards at Taiwan Innotech Expo 2026, Highlighting Cross-Disciplinary Research with Industry Potential

Seven interdisciplinary faculty–student teams from Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) participated in the Taiwan Innotech Expo 2026 from September 17 to 19, earning one gold, one silver, and one bronze award. The award-winning technologies span green building, smart health, and advanced battery research, demonstrating CYCU’s continued progress in translating academic innovation into practical industry applications.

The award recipients included Professor Chien-Sheng Huang of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Professor Yung-Hsiang Chen of the Bachelor’s Program in Smart Computing and Big Data, and Professor Wei-Jen Liu of the Department of Chemical Engineering. Their achievements reflect CYCU’s ongoing commitment to research commercialization, interdisciplinary innovation, and stronger connections between university research and industry needs.

Professor Chien-Sheng Huang of CYCU’s Department of Mechanical Engineering received a Gold Award for his patented dual-axis oscillating solar louver technology. Designed to address the space limitations of conventional solar panels, the system combines a two-section oscillating structure with smart solar tracking to improve energy capture. The design also replaces part of the aluminum structure with lightweight wood, enhancing insulation while supporting energy efficiency and carbon reduction. The technology offers greater flexibility for integrating solar energy systems into building façades and urban living environments.

Professor Yung-Hsiang Chen of CYCU’s Bachelor’s Program in Smart Computing and Big Data received a Silver Award for his caffeine intake management method and system. By integrating individual sleep schedules with alertness feedback, the system provides personalized recommendations on when and how much caffeine to consume. Designed to run on existing mobile devices without requiring costly physiological sensors, the technology offers a practical and scalable approach to personalized caffeine management.

Professor Wei-Jen Liu of CYCU’s Department of Chemical Engineering received a Bronze Award for his patented high-safety sulfide solid-state lithium battery technology. The research team developed a silica-doping modification strategy that reduced harmful gas emissions by 37% while increasing room-temperature ionic conductivity by 63%. The technology has potential applications in electric vehicles, large-scale energy storage systems, consumer electronics, and automated guided vehicles, offering new possibilities for safer and more efficient solid-state battery solutions.

CYCU has long promoted interdisciplinary research and industry–academia collaboration, supported by platforms for technology transfer and patent commercialization that help move research outcomes from the laboratory into real-world applications. The three award-winning technologies—covering green building, smart health, and advanced batteries—demonstrate the university’s ability to translate academic research into innovations with strong application potential.

Looking ahead, CYCU will continue to integrate resources in research, intellectual property, technology transfer, and industry collaboration, helping faculty and students advance technology validation and industry partnerships. Through closer engagement with corporate partners, the university aims to bring more forward-looking research into practical industrial and market applications.
