Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) continues to advance service learning by encouraging students to apply their knowledge and skills to real social needs. On October 3, the Center for Service Learning hosted the 2026 Service-Learning Showcase, themed “Restoring the Earth’s Energy,” bringing together four student teams engaged in community service, local revitalization, environmental action, and international education.
The Seed Team worked with children from new immigrant families through camps, environmental education, and beach cleanups, extending community care into environmental action. The Cultural Editorial Team organized an “AI Co-Creation Camp for Children” in Matsu, introducing young participants to artificial intelligence while transforming local stories into interactive games that connected digital creativity with local culture.

Internationally, CYCU’s Cambodia volunteer team organized English learning programs and trained local high school students to become community English instructors, expanding learning opportunities for younger children. The Thailand volunteer team partnered with Chung-Li Commercial Senior High School to conduct Mandarin summer camps at schools in Mae Sot, combining language education with cultural exchange.

At the event, Peng Cheng-Ying, Principal of San Min School in Thailand, shared his experience in education and community service, highlighting the importance of long-term commitment and trust-building. His remarks reinforced the idea that service learning is not a one-time activity, but a sustained process of engagement with schools and local communities.

CYCU Center for Service Learning Director Tu Che-Yi noted that service learning allows students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings while developing communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. The theme “Restoring the Earth’s Energy,” she explained, reflects how individual actions can accumulate into meaningful social impact.

Since establishing its Center for Service Learning in 2007, CYCU has continued to integrate whole-person education, community engagement, volunteer service, and international exchange. The four teams will further extend their efforts through a joint Service Promotion Week in November, including river-cleaning activities and fundraising for educational programs in Cambodia and Thailand.
