CYCU receives funding from the European Union’s “Erasmus+ Program” to promote the integration of humanities and sustainability courses.

Global higher education and research institutions fiercely compete for the official support of the European Union’s “Jean Monnet Program.” The list of newly subsidized projects for the upcoming year has been announced. Collaboratively planned by faculty members from Chung Yuan University’s College of Design, College of Engineering, College of Business, and General Education Center, the course modules stood out in global university evaluations and secured approval. In 2023, only two universities in Taiwan passed the application process. Chung Yuan University will receive a subsidy of 30,000 euros and will officially launch related courses and activities in 2024, allowing students to connect with the international community.

Named after Jean Monnet, one of the founding fathers of European integration, the Jean Monnet Program is an initiative of the European Union to promote global EU studies and enhance collaboration with academic institutions and civil society worldwide. The program establishes course modules, lectures, research centers, international cooperation mechanisms, and more at major global universities to advance the understanding of EU-related concepts. The competition for the Jean Monnet Program is highly intense, and institutions from around the world are eligible to apply.

After three years of research and planning, Chung Yuan University has proposed the course module “Strengthening the Integration of Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Development Strategies Following EU Policies.” The distinctive feature of this module lies in promoting the “whole-person education” spirit and emphasizing the EU’s unique “humanistic” social philosophy, combined with “sustainable” development strategies. The course focuses on three main aspects: EU Cultural Heritage and Urban Landscapes (College of Design), EU Culture and Social Development (General Education Center and College of Business), and EU Culture and Sustainable Environment (College of Engineering and General Education Center).
