Taoyuan’s “Pond Learning” goes international. CYCU leads overseas students to explore local features.

Having deep roots in the local community for many years, CYCU adopts an educational approach of “One Pond, One School, One Community.” They transform the ponds surrounding the campus into classrooms, leading students to focus on environmental sustainability and exert social influence. The International USR Experience Camp, held for four consecutive years, has attracted enthusiastic participation from students in over 10 countries, including Peru, Norway, Kenya, Germany, France, the Philippines, and Saint Kitts and Nevis. Through field trips, international students are guided to immerse themselves in the charm of Taoyuan and the culture of ponds and canals, promoting cross-cultural exchange.

The “2023 International USR Experience Camp” is divided into two parts: exploring the cultural landscapes of ponds and canals in Taoyuan and experiencing the agricultural activities in the green metro area of Lujhu. Professor Chen Chipeng from CYCU personally leads the students to visit ponds with a history of over a hundred years. He introduces the history, functions, and reasons for their formation, allowing students to deeply understand the significance of the pond-scaped environment. Under Professor Chen’s guidance, students attentively listen to the stories of each pond, leaving unforgettable impressions such as the presence of migratory birds, the texture of rice ears, the scent of the land, the joyful calls of magpies, and the delicious taste of local ingredients.
