CYCU’s distinguished professor and director of the Membrane Research and Development Center, Zhang Yong, successfully developed the “Anticoagulant Type Leukocyte Reduction Filtration Technology.” This technology is applied in the clinical process of leukocyte reduction during blood transfusions and has been utilized in the blood purification industry, safeguarding the safety of blood transfusions for the people of Taiwan. On December 6, 2023, Zhang Yong was honored with the national-level award, the “Outstanding Contribution to Science and Technology Award,” recognizing his achievements. Among the four awardees this year, Zhang Yong is the only one from a university and the sole recipient in the “Engineering and Technology” category, making his accomplishment particularly noteworthy. In his pursuit of research and entrepreneurship, Zhang Yong relentlessly advances with the greatest aspiration for Taiwan to independently produce the world’s most affordable and efficient white blood cell filter, benefiting a greater number of patients.
During his speech, Zhang Yong expressed his great honor in receiving this national-level recognition. He sees it as the highest affirmation of his lifelong dedication and a significant motivation to continue contributing to “research and innovation” in the future. He further mentioned that the establishment of this award coincided with his birth year in 1976. He is delighted to be honored in the 47th edition this year and aspires to make even greater contributions to the country in the future. Zhang Yong extended special thanks to Central China Normal University for providing an excellent environment for research and development. He also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education, the National Science Council, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs for their continuous support through government programs.
