Since its establishment, Taiwan has once again seen one of its scholars shine in the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE), marking a historic milestone. IFMBE, a non-governmental organization (NGO) affiliated with the United Nations, is dedicated to promoting academic research and technological development in the fields of medical and biological engineering. Professor Kang-Ping Lin, a tenured professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Chung Yuan University, was elected as the IFMBE Vice President/President-elect (2022-2025) and will subsequently serve as the IFMBE President (2025-2028), making him the first Taiwanese professor to hold this position in history!
IFMBE is one of Taiwan’s foreign affairs department’s foreign NGO technology and energy organizations and is a member of the International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine (IUPESM) and, consequently, a member of the International Council for Science (ISC), often referred to as the “United Nations of Science.” IFMBE’s goal is to encourage the dissemination of knowledge in biomedical and clinical engineering through research and application, provide services, and impact the world. This is achieved through organizing world congresses, regional meetings, publishing professional journals, and collaborating with other organizations to host international symposia for further academic exchange.
Tenured Professor Kang-Ping Lin in the Department of Electrical Engineering possesses exceptional expertise and a rich academic background, holding a Ph.D. in Biomedical Physics from the University of California, Los Angeles. He completed his undergraduate and master’s studies at Chung Yuan University, graduating as an alumnus of the Department of Medical Engineering and Applied Physics. He possesses a strong foundation and experience in the development, management, and marketing of medical equipment, with expertise in signal system analysis, computer image processing, and biomedical signal processing. Not only has he excelled in the field of academic research, but he is also the Editor-in-Chief of the international academic journal “Journal of Medical & Biological Engineering,” with an Impact Factor of 2.2, further showcasing his outstanding international academic influence in promoting international collaboration and knowledge exchange.
Chung Yuan University’s Department of Biomedical Engineering, as a pioneer in the nation, holds a significant position in the medical material industry and boasts numerous well-known alumni. The department effectively integrates resources within and outside the university, having signed cooperation agreements with 22 hospitals, 15 industries, and legal entities. They actively promote industry internships and cooperation, bridge the gap between theory and practice, deepen industry-academia connections, and align with international standards. Their comprehensive plan is geared towards nurturing interdisciplinary, high-level medical materials talent.
