CYCU launches the ‘Special Education Bilingual Teacher Overseas Internship’ program to nurture international special education talents.

Chung Yuan Christian University is responding to the Executive Yuan’s “2030 Bilingual Nation Policy Development Blueprint” and fully implementing its internationalization goals. In the 112th academic year, the Department of Special Education initiated the “Special Education Bilingual Teacher Overseas Internship Program.” In August of this year, three students were selected to embark on a six-month internship at a Texas public charter school in the United States, setting a new milestone for Taiwan’s bilingual special education teacher training.

The project leader, Professor Zeng Shu-Xian from the Department of Special Education, explained that this overseas internship program was facilitated through Chung Yuan Christian University’s sister school, Dallas Baptist University (DBU), which assisted in recommending and matching the American internship schools. The Teacher Education Program at DBU is a high-quality and significant teacher training institution in Texas. It was ranked first in the “Teacher Preparation Quality Review” by the National Council on Teacher Quality in 2014. For this program, DBU provided language and special education professional training to the three interns, making it a crucial contributor to the success of the overseas internship initiative.

Chung Yuan Christian University is actively promoting its internationalization goals with the mantra, “Bring Chung Yuan to the world and bring the world to Chung Yuan.” In this spirit, it has pioneered the “Forward to the World Village: Chung Yuan University Special Education Bilingual Teacher Overseas Internship Program,” providing special education students with invaluable overseas internship opportunities. This program significantly enhances their international competencies, deepens their professional development, and improves their employability. Furthermore, it makes a positive contribution to the training of special education teachers and the bilingual teacher training program in Taiwan.
