Chung Yuan Christian University’s holistic education receives recognition once again, securing the top spot nationwide in funding for higher education development among private comprehensive universities.

On the 17th, the Ministry of Education announced the approved funding results for the second phase (Years 112-116) of the Higher Education Deep Cultivation Project. Chung Yuan Christian University, building on its outstanding achievements in nurturing sustainable talents during the first phase (Years 107-111), once again received the highest amount of subsidy among private comprehensive universities nationwide, totaling NT$155 million. It ranked 13th among all universities (public and private) nationwide and 1st among private comprehensive universities. Chung Yuan has been awarded substantial subsidies from the Ministry of Education for two consecutive years under the Higher Education Deep Cultivation Project, symbolizing the remarkable effectiveness and recognition of its holistic education approach.

Since 2018, the Ministry of Education has been promoting a five-year Higher Education Deep Cultivation Project, with a focus on students and teaching as the core, and assisting universities in developing their distinctive strengths. During the first phase of the project, Chung Yuan Christian University emphasized the cultivation of students’ basic literacy and interdisciplinary learning, the promotion of key areas of excellence, international perspectives and mobility, and the impact of university social responsibility. Particularly noteworthy was the integration of the spirit of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the holistic education philosophy and the implementation of campus operations, which garnered recognition from the Ministry of Education.

In terms of teaching innovation, Chung Yuan Christian University pioneered the compilation of the “Chung Yuan University Student Learning Effectiveness Accountability Report” to ensure teaching quality and enhance student learning outcomes, implementing the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) mechanism. In terms of promoting the public nature of higher education, the university was honored with the National Sustainable Development Award in the Education category from the Executive Yuan in 2022 and received a bronze medal in the TCSA (Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards) University Sustainability Development Report. Furthermore, the faculty and students of Chung Yuan Christian University are dedicated to implementing the educational philosophy of “using technology and humanistic expertise wisely for the benefit of society.” Since 2017, they have been actively involved in various Ministry of Education University Social Responsibility (USR) projects, including the Zhuran Twin Pear Agribusiness Project, Taoyuan Dahai Community Cultural Revitalization Project, and the Sustainable Management Project linking the two canals in Taoyuan, which have gained significant support and trust from the local community. Additionally, for three consecutive years since 2020, Chung Yuan Christian University has been ranked first in the “University Social Engagement” category among private general universities in Taiwan according to the CommonWealth Magazine’s University Social Responsibility rankings.

In the second phase of the project, Chung Yuan Christian University aims to develop its strengths through precise Institutional Research (IR). The project vision revolves around “holistic learning, innovative research and development, international engagement, and sustainable development.” The university aims to cultivate six key competencies in students, namely “interdisciplinary skills, information technology and humanistic care, self-directed learning, problem-solving, social engagement, and international mobility.” These competencies are considered essential for student development within the project framework.

In the 111th academic year, Chung Yuan Christian University has evolved into a comprehensive university with eight professional colleges in various fields. The university is committed to cultivating “new-generation industry sustainable development talents” who possess both immediate and long-term capabilities to contribute to the nation and society. Moving forward, Chung Yuan Christian University will prioritize local connections, talent development, and sustainable development. It will continue to fulfill its social responsibilities by nurturing students with the ability to actively engage in society.
