On the 21st, the Ministry of Education announced the approved funding results for the second phase of the “Higher Education Sprout Project” for 2024, with Chung Yuan Christian University once again receiving the highest subsidy amount of 152 million NT dollars among private comprehensive universities nationwide! This marks the third consecutive year that Chung Yuan Christian University has ranked first among private comprehensive universities in the country, symbolizing the outstanding effectiveness of its “Holistic Education” philosophy, which has gained wide recognition and approval from various sectors of society.
Chung Yuan Christian University stated that in the second phase of the project, the school will develop its strengths through precise institutional research (IR), integrating the essence of holistic education and the spirit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With the vision of “Holistic Learning, Innovative Industry-Academia Collaboration, Deepening Internationalization, and Sustainable Development,” the university aims to cultivate students in six key competencies: “Interdisciplinary Skills, Information Technology and Humanistic Care, Self-directed Learning, Problem-solving, Social Participation, and International Mobility.”
In terms of teaching innovation, Chung Yuan Christian University has released its first “Graduate Employment and Relevance Accountability Report,” which aims to understand the current competencies of students and their expectations regarding the alignment of their education with their careers. Additionally, the university has published a “Career Development Accountability Report for International Students,” enhancing the employment support mechanisms for international students in Taiwan.
Furthermore, to align with national development strategies and international development trends, Chung Yuan Christian University has refined the construction of the SDG+AI curriculum modules in various colleges. In the “2023 World University Rankings for Sustainability” released by the UK Higher Education Survey Institution (QS), Chung Yuan Christian University was the only private university in Taiwan to be listed.
In fulfilling its university social responsibility, Chung Yuan Christian University continues to promote the Taoyuan Dahai Community Cultural Creation Project and the sustainable management project linking the Taoyuan Liangzhen Cultural Green Corridor from Xiaoli. The university has also received support from the Ministry of Education’s University Social Responsibility (USR) Project, adding a new initiative to promote the Zhongli Local Sustainable Community Environmental Public Welfare Museum Integration Project, which has garnered significant local support. According to the “Best University” evaluation by Global Views Monthly in 2023, Chung Yuan Christian University was ranked first among private comprehensive universities in terms of “Social Reputation.”
Chung Yuan Christian University stated that in response to global environmental issues, the university has integrated interdisciplinary and cross-departmental resources within the school. This year, it established the university-level “Net Zero Transition Sustainability Center” to enhance research and social service capabilities in the field of sustainability, assist enterprises in sustainable development, and cultivate more net-zero talents for the nation and society.
Since 2018, the Ministry of Education has been promoting the “Higher Education Sprout Project,” aiming to ensure that the allocation of higher education funds broadly focuses on the learning outcomes of every student and creates value in higher education. This project is considered the largest competitive subsidy program in higher education in the country. Chung Yuan Christian University’s repeated receipt of substantial subsidies demonstrates the remarkable effectiveness of its educational efforts.
