CYCU Business School Hosts Conference on New Trends in Corporate Sustainability and Social Responsibility.

As global sustainable development issues continue to gain momentum, the importance of business ethics, sustainable development, and social responsibility in corporate decision-making has significantly increased, becoming a major topic of discussion among industry, government, and academia. In recent years, the impacts of climate change and digital technology have become increasingly significant, prompting businesses to re-evaluate their influence and responsibilities in a rapidly changing environment.

On June 22, 2024, Chung Yuan Christian University’s Business School, the Center for Corporate Social Responsibility, and the Department of Business Administration will host the 2024 “International Academic Conference on Advancing Business Ethics and Social Responsibility” along with the “CYCU Business Administration Academic Conference.” This conference will incorporate current global topics of interest, such as ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to explore the impact of business ethics, social responsibility, and sustainable development. Special guests include Dr. Louis Cheng, Director of the ESG Research Center at Hong Kong Hang Seng University, and Dr. Truong Thi Thu Hang from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities at Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, who will jointly explore new trends in global sustainable development.

The first keynote speech will be delivered by Dr. Louis Cheng, titled “From CSR to ESG: The Pathway to Business Sustainability.” He will share insights on the challenges modern enterprises face during their transformation, providing attendees with a deeper understanding of how ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) trends impact the evolution of corporate social responsibility.

The second keynote speech will be presented by Dr. Truong Thi Thu Hang, titled “Community-driven Tourism and Intangible Heritage: Sustaining Practice and Cultivating Meaning For The Next Generations (The Case of Gongs Culture of The Lach People in Lac Duong District, Lam Dong Province, Vietnam).” She will discuss the practices of community-driven tourism and intangible cultural heritage, exploring how to balance economic development with sustainability, offering profound reflections for the participants.

Additionally, the conference will feature a roundtable forum on ESG trends and future prospects, as well as 16 paper presentation sessions. The topics of discussion will encompass sustainable development and financial performance, business ethics and social responsibility, social enterprises and sustainable development, consumer behavior research, workplace health and ethics, technology application and management, industry development and innovation, ESG and talent management, among other areas. This will provide attendees with a wealth of knowledge and insights, promoting cross-disciplinary exchange and collaboration.

This conference was attended by 174 participants, who presented a total of 62 papers. The attendees came from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mainland China, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Pakistan, and The Gambia. Notably, the paper from National Taipei University titled “The Relationship Between Carbon Reduction Ambitions and Financial Performance of Listed Companies in Taiwan,” and the collaborative paper by Chien Hsin University of Science and Technology, Taipei Municipal Nangang Vocational High School, National Xinhua Senior High School, and the Taiwan Urban and Rural Sustainable Development Association titled “Traditional Architecture and Community Revitalization: Exploring the Application of Digital Archiving in University Social Responsibility” won the Best Paper Award at this year’s International Academic Conference on Advancing Business Ethics and Social Responsibility.

Dean John Lee of the Business School stated that the school will continue to promote the concepts of ESG, corporate social responsibility, and business ethics, while facilitating related academic research exchanges. In the future, the Business School will also focus on the concrete implementation of University Social Responsibility (USR) and ESG, aiming to achieve a balanced development of professionalism and character. Additionally, the school hopes to awaken students’ ethical awareness and sense of social responsibility, embodying Chung Yuan Christian University’s emphasis on holistic education.
