Cultivating Students’ Global Mobility: CYCU’s EECS College Supports International Opportunities.

In the 112th academic year, Chung Yuan Christian University’s College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was awarded the “Bilingual Learning Plan for University Students.” The plan aims to enhance students’ English proficiency and international perspective. The College actively promotes various English learning and career planning activities, including arranging academic exchanges and English teaching observations at overseas partner universities and research institutes. The College is dedicated to creating a diverse learning environment for students, enhancing their professional knowledge and fostering a global outlook.

Since being selected for the Bilingual Learning Plan for University Students, the College has organized a series of engaging English activities and lectures, encouraging students to participate fully, with a total of 1,265 participants. The College hosted EMI celebrity lectures, inviting singer Dena to share her experiences studying abroad, discussing the challenges and decisions she faced. This approach resonates with students from their perspective, making the experience relatable. During Christmas, a gift exchange event focused on English interaction was held, featuring lively programs that encouraged students to use English in their daily lives and fostered peer interaction. Additionally, the College has opened and encouraged students to apply for EMI reading groups, not only promoting a culture of reading and improving English reading skills but also facilitating discussions and exchanges among students, further enhancing learning outcomes.

To help students better transition into the workforce, the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science invited the Taiwan External Trade Development Council to Chung Yuan Christian University to hold an English career lecture. This event provided valuable and practical career planning advice and guidance. Additionally, the university collaborated with NVIDIA to host a campus Watch Party livestream event featuring CEO Jensen Huang, attracting 362 students. Students were encouraged to write reflections in English after the event, helping them practice their English expression and writing skills.

The College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Chung Yuan Christian University emphasizes not only the development of students’ professional skills but also their international mobility. The College provides special subsidies for students from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Department of Electronic Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Computer Science, Bachelor Program in Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Wisconsin Dual Degree Program, and the Bachelor Program in Smart Computing and Big Data to participate in overseas exchanges. Through visits to renowned international universities, academic laboratories, and class observations, students gain in-depth knowledge of the latest research in smart manufacturing, semiconductor processes, electric vehicle technology, network communications, and new energy technologies. This experience enhances their professional knowledge, practical skills, and professional English proficiency.

Moreover, many students have been selected as exchange students or interns in overseas universities and laboratories, where they engage in deeper interactions with local graduate students. These experiences broaden their international perspectives, promote cross-cultural understanding and communication, and help them build bridges for professional exchanges abroad. Such opportunities also inspire a strong interest in innovative fields within electrical and computer engineering.

The College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Chung Yuan Christian University stated that by offering opportunities for immersive learning and exchanges, they have enriched students’ professional academic and cross-cultural experiences. These initiatives promote students’ professional development and growth in a globalized environment. Through the College’s planned activities, students not only improve their English skills but also broaden their international perspectives, laying a solid foundation for their future careers. The College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science will continue to promote the bilingual learning plan, providing students with more international learning opportunities and cultivating talented individuals with a global outlook.
