Hosted by Panasonic Taiwan, the 9th Green Living Design Competition announced its results in late December 2024. Among 30 universities, Chung Yuan Christian University’s Department of Interior Design stood out, winning the “Best School of the Year” award. CYCU students showcased remarkable creativity, earning 1 silver, 1 bronze, a Best Application Award, and 5 honorable mentions in the “2030 Living Space Design” category, reflecting their commitment to sustainable living and forward-thinking design.
The organizers highlighted the competition’s scale, with 296 teams from 30 universities, 27 high schools, and international participants, engaging over 1,000 students. The competition aims to inspire innovative green product designs and further Taiwan’s contributions to global sustainability goals.
The “2030 Living Space Design” category focused on sustainable residential solutions addressing future societal and environmental changes, emphasizing energy efficiency, resource recycling, and green development.
CYCU Interior Design graduate student Chiu Yi-Chen won silver with her project, “Therapeutic Interactive Home Space,” under the guidance of Professor Hsieh Chun-Yu. The design integrates a therapeutic living environment with AI smart home systems, visualizing personal data to create dynamic imagery that enhances the home atmosphere. By leveraging color, lighting, and ambiance, the project offers a unique self-healing experience for residents.
Graduate student Chen Yu-Nung from CYCU’s Interior Design Department earned the bronze award for her project, “MOVING WALLS,” under the guidance of Professor Lin Chih-Feng. The design addresses housing justice by introducing a movable multifunctional wall, maximizing functionality in compact living spaces and alleviating the burden of small-home living.
Another graduate student, Chiu Man-Mi, received the Best Application Award for her project, “Mobile Cube,” which explores the concept of modular and adaptable urban living. Additionally, five student projects from CYCU were recognized with honorable mentions, further showcasing the department’s excellence in sustainable design innovation.
The CYCU Interior Design Department was honored with the “Best School of the Year” award at this year’s competition, recognizing the students’ exceptional achievements. Department Chair Hsieh Chun-Yu expressed gratitude to the judging panel for their acknowledgment. As Taiwan’s first university interior design program, CYCU has a 39-year legacy and, in 1993, established the nation’s first graduate institute for interior design to cultivate advanced talent, significantly contributing to the industry’s development.
CYCU Interior Design students showcased their expertise and creativity, earning prestigious awards and bringing pride to the university. Their innovative projects also set the stage for creating sustainable and livable environments for future residential spaces.
