CYCU Establishes Semiconductor Testing Laboratory.

To address the industry’s demand for practical semiconductor talent, Chung Yuan Christian University officially inaugurated the “Semiconductor Testing Laboratory” on January 13, 2025, under the banner of “Cross-disciplinary Innovation, Leading the Future!” Equipped with state-of-the-art semiconductor testing equipment, the laboratory will serve as a premier venue for internships and research for faculty and students in related fields. It will also collaborate with several semiconductor companies through industry-academia partnerships, aiming to create a top-tier talent cultivation hub with exceptional software and hardware resources.

Semiconductors are a key national industry, and Chung Yuan Christian University is committed to becoming a leader in Taiwan’s semiconductor field. With generous donations from alumni such as Hsieh Yen-Sheng, the university established the Semiconductor Testing Laboratory at the “Knowledge and Practice Leadership Hall” in the Chung Yuan Science Park, celebrating its grand opening with an unveiling ceremony. The lab will focus on semiconductor process and quality testing, material analysis, and device evaluation, supporting the industry in advancing technical standards and accelerating new product development and promotion.

At the ceremony, President Lee Ying-Ming emphasized Chung Yuan’s foundation in science and engineering, affirming the university’s determination to play a leading role in the semiconductor sector. He expressed a vision of cultivating professionals with forward-looking perspectives and practical skills to contribute to the global semiconductor industry’s growth. President Lee also extended heartfelt gratitude to alumnus Hsieh Yen-Sheng for his tremendous support, commending him for benefiting not only Chung Yuan but also the development of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry as a whole.

Chung Yuan Christian University Chairman Chang Kuang-Cheng stated that this year marks the university’s 70th anniversary, a milestone celebrated by the establishment of the Semiconductor Industry Academy and the official inauguration of the Semiconductor Testing Laboratory. These developments signify a major step forward in cultivating semiconductor talent and demonstrate Chung Yuan’s unwavering commitment to advancing technological education.

Dean Wu Tsung-Yuan of the Semiconductor Industry Academy remarked, “A great university must have a Semiconductor Industry Academy.” Highlighting the challenging and capital-intensive nature of the semiconductor industry, he emphasized its robust vocational education market and global relevance. Wu expressed confidence in Taiwan’s status as a semiconductor powerhouse, capable of attracting not only students from Southeast Asia but also from other parts of the world. Chung Yuan Christian University has established a comprehensive platform for cultivating semiconductor talent, including the launch of the “Master’s Program in Semiconductor Materials and Optoelectronic Testing” and plans to introduce a “Bachelor’s Program in Semiconductor Engineering” in the 2026 academic year, creating a complete ecosystem for education and research.

Chung Yuan Christian University alumnus Hsieh Yen-Sheng, a distinguished graduate of the Department of Industrial Engineering, generously donated NT$15 million to support the university’s efforts in cultivating semiconductor talent. At the inauguration ceremony, Hsieh shared his deep understanding of the significance of the semiconductor industry to Taiwan’s economic development, drawn from his extensive experience in the printed circuit board sector. Expressing strong confidence in his alma mater’s education, he pledged continued support for Chung Yuan’s semiconductor talent development initiatives, aiming to position the university as a trailblazer in semiconductor education.

CYCU adopts a dual approach, combining academic teaching and practical training to cultivate semiconductor talent. Collaborating with leading semiconductor companies such as TSMC, Gudeng Precision, Everlight Electronics, GlobalWafers, Episil Technologies, and Vanguard International Semiconductor, the university co-develops industry-focused courses. As the first private university in Taiwan to establish a “Semiconductor Industry Academy,” the launch of the “Semiconductor Testing Laboratory” marks a significant milestone in Chung Yuan’s semiconductor research and applications. This development injects powerful momentum into Taiwan’s semiconductor innovation and talent cultivation efforts.
