CYCU is committed to cultivating students with professional competence, global vision, and social responsibility. In summer 2025, the College of Humanities and Education launched three practicum programs through its departments of foreign languages, Chinese language teaching, and teacher education. These initiatives applied language and education training beyond the classroom to promote intercultural understanding and community engagement, reflecting CYCU’s “learning by doing” philosophy.
Students from the Department of Applied Foreign Languages participated in a German language and culture program in Austria and completed internships in Canada, gaining global exposure and workplace experience. Locally, the department also organizes regular English storytelling and bilingual education activities in libraries and elementary schools, helping students develop teaching skills through community service.
Meanwhile, 12 students from the Department of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language interned at schools and language centers in Korea, Thailand, Sweden, the U.S., and Germany. These placements allowed them to apply teaching methods in real-world classrooms and build intercultural competence.
To support students, the university provided financial aid and held pre-departure briefings covering cultural adaptation and safety. These experiences not only strengthened students’ professional abilities but also deepened their understanding of diverse learning environments and inclusive education.
The Center for Teacher Education also held its annual “Schweitzer Spirit” service camp, with 24 students offering two weeks of educational service at a rural junior high school. The program emphasized meaningful engagement and long-term commitment to educational equity.
Dean Pen-Ni Su emphasized that these programs embody CYCU’s holistic education goals—blending international learning, local service, and interdisciplinary practice to prepare students for real-world challenges. The university will continue to expand global partnerships and social impact initiatives to nurture future-ready educators and leaders.
