The College of Engineering at CYCU recently launched the 18th annual II/ALE International Academia-Industry Leadership Experience Camp, conducted entirely in English. Continuing its commitment to internationalization, professionalism, and diversity, the program attracted over 50 students from San Jose State University, Texas A&M University, and CYCU, further demonstrating the College’s strong foundation and experience in promoting global engineering education and exchange.
This three-week camp emphasizes cross-cultural collaboration and hands-on international learning. Students from partner universities were grouped with CYCU students and assigned to professional laboratories, where they carried out engineering projects under the close guidance of professors and teaching assistants. Through a rigorous curriculum and technical workshops, students quickly acquired advanced knowledge while strengthening their logical thinking and problem-solving skills. The camp culminated in a lively final presentation and project competition, where teams showcased their innovative results and team synergy after intensive training.
Beyond lab projects, the camp featured 12 hours of high-tech seminars covering cutting-edge topics such as energy and environment, biomimetic micro flying robots, design thinking and optimization, and biomedical engineering applications. Delivered by experts from both academia and industry, these sessions combined theory with real-world case studies to help students grasp future technological trends and practical applications. Participants were encouraged to transform their learnings into tangible, demonstrable outcomes—enhancing their skills in information integration and English communication.
The program also placed strong emphasis on cultural exploration and holistic development. Students ventured into the mountain forests of Hsinchu to experience Taiwan’s natural ecology, and visited Indigenous communities in Yilan to explore Taiwan’s multicultural history, arts, and traditions through direct engagement in crafts and music. Additional visits to places such as the Giant Bicycles Museum, the ITRI Future Pavilion, the Glass Museum, and the Nuclear Power Exhibition Center offered firsthand insights into Taiwan’s technological progress and industrial innovation, broadening students’ perspectives on tech applications and industrial ecosystems.
In line with CYCU’s philosophy of holistic education, the camp incorporated aesthetics- and culture-driven activities, helping students explore the deep connections between technology and daily life through exposure to art and the humanities. This interdisciplinary approach fosters empathy, cultural awareness, and aesthetic sensibility—key components of future-ready global citizens.
Since its establishment in 2008, CYCU’s II/ALE International Academia-Industry Leadership Experience has become one of the university’s flagship international programs. It continues to advance cross-border academic exchange and cultural dialogue. This year’s integration of industrial resources and cultural immersion activities exemplifies CYCU’s mission of interdisciplinary knowledge integration and whole-person education, empowering students with not only professional competencies and global vision, but also deeper respect for diverse cultures and values.
