CYCU continues to advance international collaboration and talent cultivation. On August 23, 2025, six Electrical Engineering students, led by Prof. Yu-Kun Lai, arrived at Kansai University for a one-month lab internship, supported by Japanese scholarships. The program focuses on AI, robotics, network communications, and systems control, giving students hands-on research experience while broadening global perspectives.
During the visit, Prof. Lai also delivered a Memorandum of Understanding signed by CYCU President Ying-Ming Lee. Once finalized, CYCU and Kansai University will launch a dual master’s degree program, allowing students to complete specialized courses in Electrical Engineering and earn master’s degrees from both universities within two years, equipping them with advanced expertise and international competitiveness.
Upon arrival, the six CYCU students were warmly received by the dormitory manager and given a tour of the facilities. The comfortable single rooms—described by students as “hotel-like”—reflect Kansai University’s strong support for international students. Beyond professional training, the internship also offers valuable opportunities for cultural exchange and academic growth.
The dual master’s degree initiative between CYCU and Kansai University traces back more than a decade to collaborative lab research between CYCU Prof. Cheng-Yuan Chang and Kansai Prof. Kajikawa. What began as research exchange gradually expanded into departmental and college-level cooperation. The achievement also reflects the dedication of Prof. Wei-Chung Hsiang (Director of the College of EECS Globalization Office), Prof. Chien-Sung Chiu, the Office of International Affairs, and the administrative teams of the Department of Electrical Engineering and the College of EECS, who worked through credit transfer reviews and academic regulation revisions to reach this new milestone.
CYCU emphasized that cross-border internships and dual degree programs not only strengthen partnerships with world-class universities but also provide students with diverse global platforms, fulfilling its vision of “Bringing CYCU to the world, and the world to CYCU.” Looking ahead, CYCU will continue deepening global collaborations to cultivate innovative and globally competitive talent for both academia and industry.
