CYCU celebrates another international achievement! Professor Lu Yi-Chun from the Department of Applied Foreign Languages has earned EU approval for her project “United in Diversity – Appreciating Europe and Understanding EU” (UDAEUEU) under the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Module program. The module officially launched on October 1, 2025.
This marks CYCU’s second Jean Monnet Module award, following Associate Professor Lin Hsiao-Wei from the Department of Architecture in 2023, further highlighting the university’s international influence in European studies, intercultural education, and digital innovation in teaching.
The UDAEUEU project aims to cultivate students’ understanding of European Union culture, politics, and social issues through interdisciplinary course design and innovative teaching methods. It empowers Taiwanese students to face global challenges with broader international perspectives and critical thinking, while deepening their awareness of the EU’s role and values in global governance.
The project’s title, drawn from the EU motto “United in Diversity,” symbolizes Europe’s spirit of unity amid cultural diversity and echoes CYCU’s core ideal of Holistic Education—emphasizing respect for diversity and care for the global community.
The project will offer two specialized courses, host three thematic workshops, and organize an AI-centered innovation exhibition. By integrating AI-assisted learning and digital teaching material design, it aims to bridge theory and practice, deepening students’ understanding of EU policies, European culture, and society. Beyond course implementation, project outcomes will be released as Open Educational Resources (OERs) to promote knowledge sharing and sustainable impact of European studies within Taiwan’s higher education system.
Professor Lu Yi-Chun noted that Taiwanese students have long been trained primarily under English- and American-oriented language and cultural frameworks, with limited exposure to the European Union’s operations and culture. The launch of UDAEUEU helps fill this gap by enhancing students’ comprehension of EU institutions and social structures, and strengthening their capacity for study, employment, and cultural exchange in Europe.
Notably, the UDAEUEU project will serve as an important platform for advancing public diplomacy, inviting local communities and international visitors to participate in public lectures and AI-interactive exhibitions. These initiatives aim to foster broader public understanding and dialogue on European issues, further deepening educational and cultural ties between Taiwan and Europe.
CYCU emphasized that Professor Lu Yi-Chun’s research aligns with the EU’s mission to promote global education and cultural cooperation, reflecting the university’s strong commitment to internationalization and lifelong learning. Moving forward, CYCU will continue to encourage faculty engagement in EU studies and international collaboration networks, fulfilling its vision of “Bringing CYCU to the world and the world to CYCU,” and inspiring more students to embrace diversity and understand the world from CYCU’s global perspective.
