CYCU participated in the Ministry of Education’s Digital Humanities Achievement Showcase and Sharing Conference on January 12, receiving multiple gold, silver, and bronze awards across technology, humanities, and interdisciplinary categories in the national Digital Humanities Interdisciplinary Talent Development Program evaluation. The achievements highlight the General Education Center’s long-term commitment to digital humanities and innovative interdisciplinary teaching.
The award-winning student project, “Mapping and Analysis of Taoyuan Military Dependents’ Villages Using QGIS,” received the Interdisciplinary Gold Award. The project integrated historical research, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and data visualization to present the spatial distribution of military dependents’ villages in Taoyuan, demonstrating students’ interdisciplinary capabilities while addressing issues related to local history preservation and public memory.

In the humanities category, a student team from the course “Stories of Taoyuan Old Streets,” jointly supervised by Professor Shih-Ping Cheng and Dr. Shu-Hao Wu, received the Humanities Silver Award for the project “Taoyuan Shrine Interactive Multi-Ending Narrative Game: Shinichi Kimura’s Choice.” Set against the historical background of Taoyuan Shrine, the project uses branching narratives and interactive decision-making to explore themes of colonial governance, local memory, and personal destiny. The work demonstrates students’ ability to transform historical research into digital storytelling, highlighting the relevance of humanistic values in the digital age.

The course “History of Cultural Thought,” co-taught by Director Hui-Ling Ko of the CYCU General Education Center and CEO Chih-Chieh Chang of Wisdom Digital Culture Co., Ltd., received the Technology Category Bronze Award (Thunder Award), one of the highest honors in the competition. Centered on digital storytelling and cultural studies, the course guides students to transform abstract philosophical concepts into tangible projects through digital platforms and interactive media, demonstrating innovative approaches to integrating technology into humanities education.

CYCU emphasized that the achievements in digital humanities are not the result of a single course, but rather the culmination of long-term efforts in general education and interdisciplinary collaboration. Guided by its philosophy of holistic education, the university values both professional specialization and general education, aiming to cultivate talents equipped with expertise, character, and life wisdom. Moving forward, CYCU will continue to advance innovative teaching that integrates humanities and technology, responding to educational policies and societal needs while nurturing a new generation capable of using technology as a tool grounded in humanistic values.
