The Overseas Community Affairs Council is holding the 2026 Chinese Language Teacher Training Program for Europe and Oceania from July 6–18, 2026, with Chung Yuan Christian University serving as the host institution. The program brings together 36 Chinese language teachers from Europe and Oceania for 69 hours of intensive training in Chinese language pedagogy, AI applications, digital teaching, and culturally integrated instruction. Through professional coursework and cross-cultural exchange, participants will enhance their teaching expertise and gain new perspectives on innovative language education.
The opening ceremony was held on July 6 at the Chang Ching Yu Memorial Library of Chung Yuan Christian University. Representatives from the Overseas Community Affairs Council and the university welcomed the participating teachers from Europe and Oceania.
In her remarks, Director Lin Chi-jung noted that the training program is updated annually to reflect emerging trends in Chinese language education. This year’s curriculum combines core teaching methodologies with AI-enhanced instruction, featuring courses on task-based and gamified language teaching, differentiated instruction for mixed-level classrooms, AI-assisted development of customized Chinese teaching materials, and AI-supported classroom interaction design. The program also includes Taiwanese cultural experiences, such as Hakka culinary and knife culture and Indigenous totem weaving, as well as teacher well-being sessions to support both professional development and personal wellness.

Lee Wei-nung introduced the Overseas Community Affairs Council’s Global Chinese Language and Culture Center resources for Traditional Chinese teaching and encouraged participants to make use of the Digital Learning Companion Program to connect students in Taiwan and overseas. He also highlighted the OCAC’s newly launched AI Teaching Resources section, which helps teachers integrate generative AI tools and digital resources into lesson planning and classroom instruction.
Lu Chun-yu, Associate Director of the Chinese Language Center at Chung Yuan Christian University, said the university has extensive experience in organizing professional training for overseas Chinese language teachers. This year’s program is tailored to the instructional needs of educators from Europe and Oceania, combining educational theory with hands-on practice and incorporating newly upgraded digital teaching facilities.
The curriculum emphasizes AI literacy, digital learning environment design, and technology-enhanced Chinese language teaching, while also featuring educational and cultural visits that introduce participants to Taiwan’s Hakka culture, Indigenous traditions, and contemporary popular music. By integrating AI innovation with Taiwan’s rich cultural heritage, the program aims to equip overseas teachers with practical skills to promote Chinese language education and Taiwanese culture to future generations of learners worldwide.
