The 19th Hangzhou Asian Games are coming to a close, but besides the exciting competitions, the night lighting design of the two major venues in Wenzhou was spearheaded by Yoyo Shi, who graduated from Chung Yuan University in 2016 with a master’s degree in interior design. She holds several professional titles, including senior engineer, senior lighting designer, and first-class registered lighting designer.
During the Hangzhou Asian Games, Yoyo Shi was responsible for the architectural landscape night lighting projects at Wenzhou Sports Center and Wenzhou Longwan Olympic Center. Inspired by architecture and design from a young age, after completing her undergraduate studies at Beijing University of Technology, she chose to pursue further studies in interior design at Chung Yuan University.
Yoyo Shi emphasized that to highlight the sense of depth and dimensionality of the Asian Games venues, she designed the lighting using brightness contrasts and skillfully incorporated variations in light colors to showcase the unique cultural character of the architecture. In the case of the Wenzhou Sports Center project, she incorporated the design concept of “rhythm, vitality, and intelligence” and integrated elements related to the Asian Games theme, “Run, Jump, Inspire.” She used a gold color palette and controlled the lighting through adjustments in color, brightness contrast, and dynamic control to create a harmonious night landscape that complements the surrounding environment.
Furthermore, Yoyo Shi employed digital smart control technology to create various scene modes for the Wenzhou Longwan Olympic Center, including pre-game entrance, opening ceremony, during competitions, energy-saving, and daily modes. These design modes not only balanced the requirements of the sports atmosphere and regular architectural lighting but also demonstrated flexibility and variability, while meeting the demands of green energy efficiency and emissions reduction. This design approach not only addresses the issue of climate change but is also in alignment with Chung Yuan University’s vision of cultivating talents with a focus on “sustainability and creative service.”
