As technology rapidly advances, traditional industries face unprecedented challenges and opportunities. How to leverage emerging technologies to enhance industrial competitiveness has become a focal point of concern for all sectors. “Smart manufacturing” is a crucial direction for the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries. The “Trends Forum on the Transformation of Traditional Industries Towards Smart Manufacturing,” co-hosted by the Taoyuan SME Honorary Instructors Association, the Taipei Computer Association AI Alliance, and Chung Yuan Christian University, will be held on July 16 at the Zhi-Xing Leadership Hall of Chung Yuan Christian University. Various sectors will engage in in-depth exchanges to jointly promote the intelligent development of industries.
Mayor Chang San-cheng of Taoyuan City attended the forum, expressing his high regard for the intelligent transformation of traditional manufacturing. Chang pointed out that Chung Yuan Christian University is an outstanding institution in smart manufacturing, boasting extensive teaching, research, and industry-academia collaboration experience in this field. Since last year, the Taoyuan City Government has been vigorously promoting smart manufacturing and established the “Smart Manufacturing Service Center,” which includes a smart manufacturing advisory and consulting team. In addition to providing guidance and diagnostics, seminars are an important medium to disseminate concepts and cultivate enterprise talent. He especially thanked Chung Yuan Christian University and several renowned industry speakers for sharing their successful experiences and case studies, believing that these efforts can significantly enhance the entire industrial value chain.
In her speech, Vice President Hung Ying-yi of Chung Yuan Christian University highlighted that the university’s Smart Manufacturing Research and Development Center has been collaborating with Gudeng Precision for three consecutive years, securing a grant of NT$30 million from the National Science and Technology Council. Recently, the center also received a NT$65 million grant from the Ministry of Economic Affairs for the Intelligent Cluster Value-Added Program, aiming to contribute more to the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries.
Hung further noted that Chung Yuan Christian University is a key partner of NVIDIA, becoming the fourth AI University in Taiwan to collaborate with NVIDIA after National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University, and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, and the first among private universities. This partnership underscores the university’s commitment to AI technology development. She emphasized that Chung Yuan Christian University will continue to promote industry-academia collaboration and foster technological innovation, as only by closely integrating with industry needs can the true value of education and research be realized.
The Taoyuan SME Honorary Instructors Association stated that this forum invited numerous industry leaders to share their insightful perspectives and experiences, aiming to facilitate exchanges between SME owners and professional managers to jointly explore the future development of smart manufacturing. Distinguished guests included Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng, Executive Director of the Chinese National Federation of Industries Wang Chih-hung, General Manager of ASUS Cloud James Wu, President of Jia Hui Group Chiao Pei-wei, and Chairman of the New Directors Alliance Vincent Hsiao. Additionally, Taoyuan City Councilor Chang Hsiao-yun, an alumna of the Department of Financial and Economic Law at Chung Yuan Christian University, also attended the event.
During the forum, James Wu, General Manager of ASUS Cloud, delved into the topic of “How the Manufacturing Industry Can Build a Dedicated AI System.” President Chiao Pei-wei of Jia Hui Group shared insights on “How ESG Combined with AI Can Create New Opportunities for the Manufacturing Industry.” In the afternoon session, Vincent Hsiao, President of the New Directors Alliance and the Taiwan Digital Technology Second Generation Association, led a discussion on “How Smart Manufacturing and Startups Can Collaborate for a Win-Win Outcome,” emphasizing the importance of collaboration between enterprises and startups.
Chung Yuan Christian University’s Smart Manufacturing Research and Development Center also showcased its latest research achievements and provided a tour of the international-level Industry 4.0 demonstration site, allowing participants to experience smart manufacturing applications firsthand. The tour was guided by Director Cheng Nian-tian of the Incubation Center and Assistant Professor Ding Yu-hong of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Additionally, the exhibition area featured smart manufacturing applications from four companies: InnoDisk Corporation, Victory Technology, Yiyi Digital Technology, and Jigs Technology Co., Ltd. The event received high praise from all sectors, offering valuable experiences and insights for the intelligent transformation of traditional industries.
