A delegation from the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), a longstanding partner institution of Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU), visited CYCU from December 17 to 18, 2024. The three-member delegation explored research advancements in the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, while also discussing scholarships for students in the CYCU-UWM Dual Degree Program and exploring new avenues for collaboration, adding momentum to CYCU’s internationalization efforts.
On the first day, the delegation toured the Computer Network and Systems Laboratory, the Active Noise Control Laboratory, and the Medical Device Technology Translation Center. Following the tour, both institutions held an academic collaboration meeting focusing on scholarships for students in the CYCU-UWM Dual Bachelor’s Degree Program in Electrical and Computer Engineering and strategies to strengthen academic and research partnerships, fostering a shared vision for deeper cooperation.
On the second day of their visit, the UWM delegation met with CYCU Vice President Dr. Ying-Yi Hung to review the current status and achievements of the collaboration between the two universities. They then participated in the “2024 Force Awakens Microstar Cup Project and Creative Idea Competition,” hosted by CYCU’s College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
During the competition’s opening ceremony, UWM Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Prof. Andrew Graettinger, delivered a speech, praising CYCU students for their innovative projects and highlighting their impressive creative thinking. Prof. Graettinger also engaged with Li Ji-Ru, a first-year student in the CYCU-UWM Dual Degree Program, discussing her competition entry and commending her creative achievements. He remarked that this visit not only deepened UWM’s understanding of CYCU’s teaching and research strengths but also showcased the students’ ability to integrate knowledge with innovation in practical applications.
Dean of CYCU’s College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Dr. Chien-Sung Chiu, remarked that UWM’s visit has fostered in-depth academic and research exchanges between the two institutions, laying a solid foundation for future collaborations in innovative education and international engagement.
Dr. Yu-Kun Lai, Director of the CYCU-UWM Dual Bachelor’s Degree Program in Electrical and Computer Engineering, shared that the program, established in the 2021 academic year, will see its first cohort of students graduate from UWM in May 2025 with dual bachelor’s degrees from both institutions. Each cohort comprises approximately 18-20 students, with nearly 60 enrolled so far. Graduates have the opportunity to pursue advanced studies or careers in the United States, expanding their international perspectives and significantly enhancing their future competitiveness.
