Chung Yuan Christian University Unveils “Ji-Da Hall,” a New Landmark for Semiconductor Education.
CYCU has inaugurated a new state-of-the-art learning facility, “Ji-Da Hall,” established through the generous donation of distinguished alumnus Mr. Chiao Ping-Hai, Chairman of GlobalWafers. Designed to integrate the needs of the semiconductor industry with the university’s chemical engineering curriculum, Ji-Da Hall features comprehensive displays of semiconductor material processes, cutting-edge machinery, and virtual reality (VR) equipment. This immersive space bridges theory and practice, marking a new chapter in semiconductor education at CYCU.
The opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting event were held on May 12 at 2:00 PM, attended by CYCU Chairman Mr. Chang Kuang-Cheng, President Dr. Lee Ying-Ming, GlobalWafers Chairman Mr. Chiao Ping-Hai, and his elder brother Mr. Chiao Sheng-Hai, among other distinguished guests. The event was both grand and heartwarming, celebrating the university’s ongoing commitment to educational innovation.
CYCU President Dr. Lee Ying-Ming expressed his gratitude to alumnus Mr. Chiao Ping-Hai for his longstanding dedication to the university. From supporting educational resources and scholarships to nurturing student development and fostering industry-academia collaboration, Mr. Chiao has been a steadfast supporter of his alma mater.
The establishment of Ji-Da Hall symbolizes not only the heartfelt contributions of alumni but also the embodiment of CYCU’s holistic education philosophy. Looking ahead, the university hopes to further deepen its partnership with GlobalWafers, setting a new milestone in industry-academia collaboration.
Mr. Chiao Ping-Hai, Chairman of GlobalWafers, shared that the values of “giving back to society” and “remembering one’s roots” have always guided both his personal philosophy and the corporate culture of GlobalWafers. The establishment of Ji-Da Hall is not only a tribute to his late father, who supported his entrepreneurial journey, but also a platform for advancing materials education and research.
Mr. Chiao expressed his hope that Ji-Da Hall will inspire younger generations of students to pursue learning with passion. He also pledged that GlobalWafers will continue to fully support CYCU’s industry-academia collaboration initiatives, helping students seamlessly bridge the gap between academic learning and professional careers.
Located in the College of Engineering building, Ji-Da Hall features a range of innovative teaching facilities, including a semiconductor crystal growth machine model, a striking two-meter tall 12-inch silicon ingot display, and advanced projection and virtual reality (VR) equipment. These immersive tools vividly showcase the core processes of the semiconductor industry, enhancing students’ understanding and connection to real-world applications.
CYCU is actively advancing semiconductor education and cultivating interdisciplinary talent through curriculum innovation, facility upgrades, and strong industry-academia partnerships. As the university approaches its 70th anniversary, the inauguration of “Ji-Da Hall” — established with the support of alumni and industry partners — holds significant symbolic value. It marks a key milestone in CYCU’s efforts to bridge academia with industry and integrate theoretical learning with practical application, further strengthening its role in developing globally competitive semiconductor professionals.
