Chung Yuan Christian University held the 2025 Holistic Care Award Ceremony on June 8, recognizing students and teams committed to volunteer service. This year introduced a “People’s Choice Award” to boost engagement. Top honors went to the “Humanities Media Group,” which uses writing, podcasts, and social media to raise awareness about new immigrants and migrant workers, promoting understanding and inclusion through youth-driven storytelling.
The second-place team award went to CYCU’s Malaysia Overseas Volunteer Group, Hua-Ma Ga Yi Li. During a three-week service trip to Kedah, Malaysia, the team collaborated with a local orphanage and Chinese high school to offer Mandarin lessons and cultural exchange activities. Their creative curriculum included night market games, lantern painting, and Indigenous songs—reaching over 280 participants. Team members shared that beyond teaching, heartfelt interactions meant the most. They continue to share their experiences back in Taiwan through cultural events and presentations.
The top individual award went to Hsu Tai-Yi from the Department of Special Education. She has long been involved in supporting children with special needs and their families, gradually becoming a bridge between the children and the world. In her presentation, she shared:
“The stumbling blocks on my path in special education have become stepping stones toward understanding—and growing with—these children.” Her words deeply moved the audience.
During the event, student participants reflected on the impact of their service journeys.
One shared, “Preparing for the competition made me realize how much I’ve actually done—small things, but full of meaning.” Another said, “Through service, I gained far more than I gave. It’s been an extraordinary university adventure.”
