CYCU has earned another international distinction in global university assessments. In the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings, which evaluated 911 universities across 94 countries, CYCU made an impressive first-time entry, placing 301–350 worldwide and 11th in Taiwan.
Excluding institutions with medical backgrounds, CYCU ranked No. 1 among all private comprehensive universities in Taiwan, demonstrating international recognition for its accomplishments in interdisciplinary scientific research.
The 2026 THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings assess universities based on their performance in cross-disciplinary science involving at least two scientific fields, covering four major areas: Computer Science, Engineering, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences.
CYCU Vice President for Research, Dr. Tsung-Yuan Wu, noted that the University’s nine colleges—including the recently established College of Intelligent Computing and Quantum Information and the College of Semiconductor Industry—have strengthened its interdisciplinary ecosystem. Faculty from diverse fields now collaborate extensively on major cross-disciplinary research challenges.
Dr. Wu highlighted CYCU’s internationally recognized Thin Film Research Center, which advances research in water resources, sustainable energy, and precision medicine through collaboration among faculty in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, and biotechnology. The Center also maintains active partnerships with leading global universities such as Cornell University, The University of Tokyo, and Nanyang Technological University, establishing CYCU as a major hub for thin-film research worldwide.

The ranking evaluates universities across three major dimensions—Inputs (funding and infrastructure), Process (management support and research promotion), and Outputs (research quality and reputation). These are further expanded into 11 sub-indicators, including research funding, facilities, administrative support, outreach, dissemination, research quality, and international reputation, providing a comprehensive assessment of institutional support and performance in interdisciplinary research.
In its first participation, CYCU delivered an outstanding performance, ranking 11th in Taiwan and No. 1 among private comprehensive universities excluding medical institutions. This achievement highlights the University’s longstanding commitment to building a strong foundation for interdisciplinary scientific research, earning high recognition from international evaluation bodies.
CYCU noted that this accomplishment reflects the collective efforts of its faculty and students. It demonstrates that the University’s research capacity, cross-disciplinary integration, and academic culture have reached an international standard. Moving forward, CYCU will continue to uphold its educational philosophy—to apply technological and humanistic expertise wisely for the betterment of society—as it strengthens interdisciplinary research and expands its academic impact.
