CYCU Unveils “Star Corridor,” an Immersive Space and Astronomy Learning Venue.

On December 19, CYCU’s College of Science and the Space Technology Research Center held the unveiling ceremony of the “Star Corridor” exhibition space on the first floor of the Science Building. Designed by renowned astronomer Dr. Wei-Hsin Sun, the Star Corridor features large multimedia displays that create an impressive immersive environment showcasing the beauty of the night sky and the wonders of the universe. With 2026 designated as the “Year of Space,” the Center will use this platform to launch a series of educational and outreach activities, linking the history and cutting-edge developments of space science and inviting more faculty, students, and the public to explore and better understand space.

Former Director of the National Museum of Natural Science for ten years, Dr. Wei-Hsin Sun joined CYCU in the 2024 academic year as Chair Professor in the Department of Physics and concurrently Director of the Space Technology Research Center, leading the planning and design of the “Star Corridor” concept and exhibitions. Distinguished guests attending the unveiling ceremony included CYCU Chairman Chang Kuang-Cheng, President Lee Ying-Ming, Vice President Wu Tsung-Yuan, Dean of the College of Science Yeh Jui-Ming, and former Dean of the College of Design Wei Chu-Jung, marking the official launch of CYCU’s first immersive scientific learning space integrating space technology and astronomy education.

The “Star Corridor” features a high-resolution LED display extending from the end wall up across the ceiling, presenting breathtaking night-sky visuals and powerful rocket launch scenes. Surrounding the space are seven vertical interactive panels offering approachable astronomy knowledge and space stories that visitors can explore through touch interaction. After learning, visitors proceed to a central horizontal screen for a fun “Space & Astronomy Challenge,” allowing them to review what they’ve learned through engaging quizzes and complete the full Star Corridor learning experience.

Chairman Chang Kuang-Cheng remarked that Professor Wei-Hsin Sun has long dedicated himself to popular science education, helping countless people understand astronomy and space exploration in an accessible way. “It is a great honor for CYCU to invite Professor Sun to join the university and to create, through the College of Science’s Space Technology Research Center, such a space that embodies both beauty and knowledge,” he said. Expressing gratitude to God’s grace and guidance, he also hoped the Star Corridor would become a meaningful place for faculty and students to look toward the stars, reflect on faith, and contemplate their life mission.

President Lee Ying-Ming stated that CYCU is rooted in holistic education, emphasizing not only professional competence but also character development and interdisciplinary learning. The “Star Corridor” integrates science education, artistic experience, and interactive technology, aligning with the establishment of the Space Technology Research Center while embodying the University’s mission in science communication and social engagement. He added that through general education courses, themed activities, and community visits, the Star Corridor will serve as a shared science and cultural hub for both the campus and the city.

Chair Professor Wei-Hsin Sun emphasized promoting astronomy through “seeing science in nature and using science to understand nature,” hoping the Star Corridor will inspire especially young people to observe, explore, understand, and ultimately cherish nature and life. He also noted that 2026 will be marked as the “Year of Space,” during which CYCU will launch a series of astronomy education and outreach activities, with the Star Corridor serving as a key platform supported by the Astronomy Club.

Located to the left of the main entrance on the first floor of CYCU’s Science Building, the “Star Corridor” is open to the public during office hours, welcoming visitors and school groups. In celebration of the Christmas season, the design team has also prepared themed visual displays, including Santa Claus and Nativity scenes, combining starry-sky imagery with warm storytelling to invite everyone to look up at the cosmos and experience both the grandeur of the universe and the warmth of faith.
