CYCU’s First Yushan Young Scholar, Ting-Hui Lin, Advances Vaccine Design and Biomedical Innovation.

To strengthen global talent recruitment and research competitiveness, Taiwan’s Ministry of Education launched the Yushan Scholar Program in 2018. In a significant milestone, Chung Yuan Christian University announced that Dr. Ting-Hui Lin, newly appointed Associate Professor in the Department of Biotechnology, has been approved as a Yushan Young Scholar, becoming the first recipient at CYCU.

The Yushan Young Scholar selection process evaluates not only recent research achievements and academic visibility, but also future potential and institutional support. Given the highly competitive review and limited quotas, approval for a private general university is particularly notable. Dr. Lin is also an alumnus of CYCU’s Master’s Program in Biotechnology, reflecting the University’s long-term investment in biomedical and interdisciplinary talent development.

Dr. Lin previously conducted five years of postdoctoral research at Scripps Research, a world-leading biomedical research institute renowned for its excellence in chemistry, immunology, and neuroscience. His research focuses on neutralizing antibodies and virus–receptor recognition mechanisms for emerging infectious diseases, including SARS-CoV-2 and H5N1 influenza, demonstrating strong potential for translational biomedical applications.

CYCU Vice President and Dean of Research and Development Chung-Yuan Wu noted that talent recruitment has become a critical factor in global higher education competition, citing similar international initiatives such as Belgium’s Odysseus Program. With support from the Yushan Young Scholar Program, CYCU will further advance research in structural and translational immunology, driving innovation in vaccine development and immunotherapies, particularly in pandemic preparedness and public health response.

CYCU emphasized that Dr. Lin’s expertise aligns closely with the University’s strategic focus on biomedical innovation, international collaboration, and societal impact. His contributions will strengthen CYCU’s research capacity in emerging infectious diseases, vaccine design, and structural biology, while also enhancing talent cultivation through new interdisciplinary courses addressing global health challenges.
