CYCU Commended by the Premier for Post-Disaster Recovery Efforts.

CYCU was recognized for its contributions to post-disaster recovery, as Premier Cho Jung-tai received university representatives on January 26, 2026. The Premier commended faculty and students from 30 universities nationwide for their involvement in recovery efforts following the September 2025 disaster, highlighting youth engagement in public service and the fulfillment of University Social Responsibility (USR).

Guided by its commitment to holistic education, CYCU encourages faculty and students to apply their professional expertise to social service. Vice President for Student Affairs Ting-Yu Chin and Psychology student Min-Jui Fan-Chiang represented the university at the event, receiving a certificate of appreciation in recognition of CYCU’s dedicated support for post-disaster recovery in the Mataian area.

After a powerful typhoon severely impacted the Mataian area of Guangfu Township, Hualien, Chung Yuan Christian University launched the Mataian Community Recovery Volunteer Service. Working in partnership with the Mataian Presbyterian Church, CYCU mobilized approximately 120 volunteers across three groups during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday (October 4–6) to assist with environmental cleanup and post-disaster recovery in Dama Village and surrounding communities.

Vice President for Student Affairs Ting-Yu Chin noted that each volunteer group was limited to 35 participants, with all spots filled within four hours of registration opening, reflecting strong engagement among CYCU faculty and students. The initiative also received support from the private sector, as Hongxing Tour Bus Company generously sponsored three buses over three days, providing transportation to and from the disaster area and demonstrating the power of cross-sector collaboration.

To ensure the safety of both volunteers and local residents, six members of CYCU’s Emergency Medical Service Society accompanied the teams, bringing first-aid supplies, sanitation materials, and personal protective equipment. In addition, the Indigenous Student Resource Center led Indigenous students in recovery efforts across Guangfu Township, assisting with environmental cleanup in local communities and visiting affected students’ families to offer care and support.

Student representative Min-Jui Fan-Chiang, who attended the Premier’s commendation ceremony on behalf of CYCU, shared that as a member of the university’s Emergency Medical Service Society, she joined faculty and fellow students in disaster relief efforts, assisting with cleanup, material transport, and monitoring volunteers’ physical well-being. She emphasized that post-disaster recovery is not only about restoring the environment, but also about providing companionship and understanding to affected communities. Fan-Chiang also noted that support from the Ministry of Education’s scholarship program enabled her to pursue her studies with peace of mind and inspired her commitment to service and social contribution.

CYCU stated that the invitation to the Premier’s reception and the certificate of appreciation affirm the dedication of its faculty and students to post-disaster recovery. Guided by its philosophy of holistic education, the university remains committed to advancing University Social Responsibility and public engagement, cultivating students with professional competence, character, and compassion, and providing steady support to society when it is most needed.
