CYCU Ranked Among Top 150 Globally in QS Subject Rankings, Only Private University in Taiwan Listed.

CYCU has been ranked among the world’s top 150 in Classics and Ancient History in the 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject. According to the published results, only six universities in Taiwan were listed in this subject’s global top 150, with CYCU standing out as the only private university on the list—highlighting its academic strength and distinctive achievements in the field of classical and humanistic studies.

According to the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject, six universities in Taiwan were ranked in Classics and Ancient History. National Taiwan University placed 6th globally, while National Chengchi University, National Chung Cheng University, National Taiwan Normal University, National Tsing Hua University, and Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) were ranked in the 51–150 range. CYCU is the only private university in Taiwan included in this category.

CYCU’s Office of Institutional Research and Assessment noted that the QS ranking in this subject is primarily based on academic reputation (90%), followed by employer reputation. Although CYCU does not offer a directly corresponding program, its College of Humanities and Education has strengthened its academic foundation in areas such as Chinese language education, digital learning applications, and international academic exchange, significantly enhancing its research capacity and global visibility.

Dean Peng Ni-Szu further highlighted that the college has made steady progress in academic research, international collaboration, teaching innovation, and cross-border partnerships. Through initiatives such as international lectures, hosting major academic conferences, integrating AI into classical literature teaching, and publishing scholarly works through global collaborations, CYCU has expanded its academic presence from local engagement to international recognition, continuing to strengthen its impact in the humanities.

In teaching innovation, CYCU has introduced the AI-driven MetaDisplay system in the 2025 academic year, integrating content such as Tang poetry, classical Chinese, and philology into classroom applications. Developed by faculty and students from the Department of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, these initiatives promote the integration of classical texts and digital technology. The outcomes have been presented in five domestic academic papers, demonstrating innovative interpretations and teaching practices in the humanities in the AI era.

CYCU noted that its recognition in the QS rankings for Classics and Ancient History reflects long-term efforts in humanities education, international engagement, and research innovation, while also highlighting the strong future potential of the field. Moving forward, the university will continue to integrate technology with humanistic knowledge, advancing its educational vision of applying wisdom and expertise to benefit society.
